Customer Question

Can a public defender represent my mentally ill daughter who is (medi-medi)from accusations by the apartment landlord and will be evicted? We are answering the allegations and filing for a waiver of court fees as my husband and I live with her too.

Hi - my name is ***** ***** I'm a Criminal Law litigation attorney. Thanks for your question. I'll be glad to assist.
No, a public defender can only represent a party in a criminal proceeding......not civil, which is what this is. However, your daughter may be able to get help from local legal aid. She should search for a local legal aid office in her area to assist. That would be her best chance at getting some legal assistance short of hiring a private lawyer.
