We have a neighborhood crime watch here in Hudson Florida, and in the year and a half now since inception, we have had six dissidents making life hell for all involved. They are making every effort to degrade us. They have recently started a web site to let the world know what is happening here. The web site is titled Perverts, Bullies and Racist, none of which is even near the truth. Two weeks ago, a neighbor was arrested for child molestation, he was not involved in the Crime Watch, but they took it and ran with it. They passed out flyers everywhere, telling folks that we told you so. Perverts are running the crime watch. They even had channel ten in Tampa to report the story, which again was totally one sided, and then in the newspaper also. They are also trying hard to make it a racial issue, and when the story broke about the Trayvon Martin shooting, that is when they broke it to the press, so it would fall in line with what they are trying to convey. I can attest to the fact that all the crime watch people are doing a great job, with the rate of burglary now down at least half. The folks working at it are, Honest Hard working people trying to keep crime to a minimum. On the other hand, the people trying to fight us on every issue, one man shot and killed a man up in New York, another is a fifteen times convicted, two felonies and a low life. The remaining are not quite as bad, but they are all in the same class. I don't know if we have a case against them, or even if it's criminal or civil, but we must do something to stop this behavior. They at the very least are Slandering us and worse. It is now stopping crime watch folks from walking through the neighborhood, they shout profanities and give obscene jestures, so some just remain home to avoid any confrontations, others are in fear. This is a very brief version of the whole situation, but hopefully you can get some idea. We ask that you may have some instructions for us, and would this be a case to be heard in court and is it criminal or not.

If they are making these known false statements or making them with reckless disregard of the truth, then the association has a right to file suit against them and seek an injunction for defamation/libel and for the common law tort of false light and seek damages to the association. As you are a crime watch association, you would have to hire an attorney to sue them and obtain the court injunction to force the site to close and to force them to cease making these false statements.
