Can someone press assault charges after the fact? The police were involved and no charges were made at that time.

Yes, you can file charges after the fact. It might be tougher to prove, but that doesn't mean that a complainant isn't entitled to have the state try if he was a victim of a crime.

For a NJ misdemeanor, charges would have to be brought within a year or it would be barred by the state's statute of limitations. For a felony, the complainant would have up to 5 years to press charges.
