If he pressed charges against you, it is a crime for him to file a false police report, also he may have violated a whitenesses tampering law by soliciting a false statement from his girlfriend. There are both criminal offenses. His attempt to provoke and ultimately his faking of the act make sense and support your claim. I would stress that you had no reason to want to hit him, he attempted to provoke it, failed and attempted to get a witness to lie.In the civil realm you have claims that may apply such as defamation, vilification, slander, and libel. Also if he goes to court with it, malicious prosecution.
