Dear Customer

First you would need to file a police report. If the police find probable cause to the truthfulness of the complaint, an arrest warrant can be issued.

Reply to Moe Manser's Post: You did not help, the clerk said bring front and back copies of the returned check to her and she would send a letter to the writer of the check. What i need to know is how long do you have to do this after the check is wrote to get a warrant taken out. The clerk said if the writer does not pay for the check in a certain amout of time she would take out a warrant.

Dear Customer

There is no statute limitations on the Tennessee law, which states time frame for warrants on bad checks, only the court could impose that based on the amount of time required to issue the warrant. If the clerk writes a letter to the individual who wrote the check demanding payment and the individual does not answer or refuses, then the clerk will put the matter on the calendar before the judge, and only the judge will decide whether an warrant is to be issued or not. You have a year to file the complaint from the date of of the check.
