I paid around $685.00 to a Talent Agent ( International Models

Customer Question

I paid around $685.00 to a Talent Agent ( International Models & Talent, Inc.) located in Beverly Hills California for my 15 year old daughter to have professional pictures taken for acting and modeling auditions. I think that he is a scam and he is constantly trying to get money from me. I feel like I am paying him to represent my daughter. The pictures were taken about two weeks ago and they have not bee released to me. I want to get my money back and move own from this agent. Can I demand my back for the pictures. i believe that he over charged me and he is getting part of the money for his own pocket.
JA: The Consumer Protection Lawyer will need to help you with this. Have you consulted a lawyer yet?
Customer: No
JA: Please tell me everything you can about this issue so the Consumer Protection Lawyer can help you best. Is there anything else the Consumer Protection Lawyer should be aware of?
Customer: On 7/24/2016, he had parents, their kids and other young adults come to his office for auditions in order to be selected to attend the International modeling and talent conference in New York from 7/24 to 7/29/2016. The price for my daughter to attend $4,950.00 and my fee $3,295. The agent said that we would have to feed our selves, there would be three to four people to a room, there would additional costs to take more pictures and for hair and make up. We just signed with this agent two weeks ago and he has not even started to find work for her locally. my understanding is the agents get fees for bring people to the IMA in New York. Again, I think that he is a scam artist.

I am sorry to hear this. Is he licensed as a Talent Agent? You can check at https://www.dir.ca.gov/databases/dlselr/talag.html

I checked the web site that was provided by the name of the company, address and city and nothing could be found.

Please advise if I can get a refund for the pictures that I have not received at this time.
Expert:  N Cal Attorney replied 10 months ago.
Yes, you are entitled to a full refund because the contract is void for illegality. You can sue in Court or, more easily, submit the dispute to the Labor Commissioner, seehttps://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/Talent/Talent_Laws_Relating_to_Talent_Agencies.pdf I hope this information is helpful.
