I have received a notice from a collection agency on a debt

Customer Question

I have received a notice from a collection agency on a debt owed to a California government agency. It is addressed to a company that has been out of business and dissolved for 3 years. The debt was never owed by the company because the agency named it instead of me personally. What will happen if I do not pay the debt?

Thank you for using JustAnswer.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. What type of debt is it? And when you say that it's addressed to a company that's been out of business, are you personally liable for this debt?
