I am expecting to be served by a debt collector/ attorney.

Customer Question

I am expecting to be served by a debt collector/ attorney. To date the collection company(Midland) and the original bank(Citi) have corresponded using a mail box I established in the State of Michigan. I do not live in Michigan but live; and have lived;
in Pennsylvania. My questions are 1) Can I be served / sued in Michigan as I live in Pa? 2) Can I be served by mail in Michigan? 3)Can I be served by mail in Pa or is personal service required? 3) If I am served by mail in Michigan how do I respond? Please
be specific. Do I need to give my Pa address in this response?

Hello

Expert:  Infolawyer replied 1 year ago.

let me go over each question:

1. You need to be served where you are located. In another state, there will be a service/jurisdiction defense.

2. No.

3. You can have a local lawyer move to dismiss for improper service and lack of jurisdiction. In answering, the lawyer can respond and need not disclose your actual personal address.

Let me know if that is clear and acceptable.
