I'm a 74 year old disabled veteran and am a victim of high pressure, well trained telemarketing folks and they've just about relieved me of all my money. on top of that I'm fighting a terminal cancer (CLL) so, I really need to know if it's possible to cancel some of these websites and or contracts that I've foolishly allowed myself to be involved with.
Optional Information: Country relating to Question: United States State (if USA): Tennessee Already Tried: Ask and some say you can cancel but no money back, while one of the biggest ones says the only way is to pay in full or die.
You can start to work on getting your money back here, it is not going to be easy. First, if you paid by any credit cards, cancel the charges and notify each card of fraud. Second if you paid by automatic withdrawal from accounts this is more difficult, but shut down the accounts and open new ones. Then you need to contact the Adult Protection Agency near you and report financial abuse of the elderly to them and they can begin to help you. In the meantime, write each one of these companies and inform them if they do not issue refunds and cancel the accounts you will 1) Notify the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Unit for fraud and financial abuse of the elderly, 2) File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and 3) File a complaint with the Federal Fair Trade Commission regarding their scamming elderly customers. Some of these companies will agree to grant the refund to avoid trouble because they know they could not survive any investigations into their affairs. Others will refuse and those who refuse, you need to report as I said above.In the meantime Adult Protective Services will work to provide you assistance as well to help recover your funds. If these avenues do not work then I am afraid you would need to get an attorney to step in to try to collect from them.
