Hello,I was shocked the other day when receiving a Patient Services Provided statement from the local clinic in the mail. A CNP had removed a tiny bit of glass from my heel on June 21. All she did was swab the heel with an antiseptic, poke around with a needle to locate the glass and then pull it out with a tweezers. The whole thing took about 15 minutes. The statement listed charges of $72 for office visit and $524 for "removal foreign body."The insurance company will probably pay for the charges but it just seems like they are being ripped off! I can't believe this clinic had the nerve to charge $524 for taking out a tiny bit of glass with tweezers.Should I call up the insurance company and tell them what I think, or should I just keep my mouth shut. I wish I'd had my daughter try to get the glass out, or just leave it there-- it probably would have festered out on its own.

Unfortunately, this is the problem with healthcare in the United States and many people complain about these high charges for healthcare. Sadly, they are allowed to still charge these types of charges for seemingly minor services. All you can do in these cases is complain to the clinic if they try to charge you for what the insurance company does not pay and argue with them to waive the balance of the bill and also check with your insurance to determine if the clinic has a provider contract with them that states they cannot bill you for the difference from what the insurance pays and the bill.
