I contracted for internet service with a company called Wild Blue on or around September 26, 2009. I already had service with another company and kept it active after the Wild Blue installation. The Wild Blue service was much slower than my previous provider. I called Wild Blue to disconnect and they talked me into upgrading and gave me some credit to my account. They also advised me of a downloadable software called the "Optimizer" that would maximize their connection speed. That software would not work on my computer - a Mac. I called today (11-2) to cancel their service. They reminded me that, as part of their service agreement, I would have to pay $15 a month for the 22 months remaining in my contract as a penalty for early disconnect. My question is, is there any way out of or to minimize that penalty?

Thank you for contacting our JA team for guidance. Unfortunately, you are bound by the terms you agreed to for the service contract. However, you should not be charged in any way for the software that would not work with your Mac. If the reason you upgraded and entered into the new contract was because of the non-working software, you could inform them in writing that you are terminating the contract because you were not informed that it would not work on your computer and due to this mistake of fact, you cannot utilize the upgrade (if that is true). If they refuse to negotiate, report them to the BBB and the state Consumer Protection Agency. If they care at all about their reputation, they will want to resolve the matter in your favor to remove the negative reports. Please let me know if you need additional information.
