Customer Question

Hi, my question is similar to one submitted three years ago, (http://www.justanswer.com/heavy-equipment/78beb-cat-420e-backhoe-extendahoe-will-not-work.html). I have a 420E CAT0420EVHLS04291, manual shift, extendahoe with thumb hydraulics, floats/ride control and 4x4. Battery went dead, not sure why. Now thumb and extendahoe don't work. Even when hookup up to a jump vehicle. It also has pilot controls. For the Backhoe. Thanks.

Hi Jesse, My name is***** will be glad to help. there is a service bulletin on this issue. First correct your low voltage issue by replacing your battery with a known tested good one with a digital tester with no internal problems, dead cells etc. Clean and tighten all battery to starter connections including all grounds and verify the alternator is charging around 2 volts above battery voltage with the engine running. Once okay and if the problem still exists your controller ( ECU) software needs to be updated and reflashed/reprogrammed by the dealer. If the reflash fails you will need to replace the faulty controller. Let me know
