I have a 1999 JD 240 Skidsteer. New battery, new cables, new alternator and the battery does not charge according to the ammeter on the overhead dash.

Check the output of the alternator and check the wire from it to the battery positive , usually attached at the starter solenoid. Output of the alternator has to be above the battery voltage or it will not charge .

Was the output from the alternator going to the battery?
