The seal went out of our Case 580C backhoe and it got low on

Customer Question

The seal went out of our Case 580C backhoe and it got low on oil. Now it will not go into gear forward or back, although there is some noise when you put it in forward. With lack of oil, which part in the system is most apt to fail? We don't know where to start troubleshooting.

Did you fill the torque converter/shuttle section? Most 580's have separate dipstick and filler for it. Not part of transmission!
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I can see my description was not correct in that the unit is called a shuttle, not a transmission. I filled the shuttle through its own dipstick hole. I am looking for another place to add oil directly to the torque converter. I will let you know if I find one.

No, shuttle filler will fill torque converter!

Does the shuttle have a small removable oil pan?
Expert:  Curtis B. replied 1 year ago.
Oil pump pulls from the bottom of the shuttle.
