Expert:  Lorenz Vauck replied 1 month ago.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.

Expert:  Lorenz Vauck replied 1 month ago.

Thank you. Did it ever work before and does it work right now at another computer? Because those drives do need no drivers...

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
it work for the last 2yr but today it didn't, I even try it laptop and don't work, maybe its time for a new one
Expert:  Lorenz Vauck replied 1 month ago.

Yes, if it does not work on the other computer either, then it is defective, unfortunately :-( The controller most likely died. It would make sense to buy a new drive in that case. Do you need the data that is currently on the drive?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
but it can wait
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
thank you for your help
Expert:  Lorenz Vauck replied 1 month ago.

I see, you could also try to buy a new empty external hard drive enclosure, possibly only the controller of the external enclosure is damaged and you can then simply put the hard drive into the new enclosure and access the data again. Should I look something up for you?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I just tap it and plug cord back in and its working good now
Expert:  Lorenz Vauck replied 1 month ago.

Hehe, that is the good old trick, right? But, this does not sound very healthy though. What I´d do, now that you can access it, is to backup ALL the files on the drive to another location, because chances are high that it might not turn on once again... Do you need help with that or do you know how to do that?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
no but thank you again I have a seagat 1 tb im going to slid stuff over
Expert:  Lorenz Vauck replied 1 month ago.

Yes, perfect, just copy everything over, chances are high that the drive will really fail completely later on, if it already acts like that. Is there anything else I can do for you please? Was I able to help you?

Expert:  Lorenz Vauck replied 1 month ago.

If you could please be so kind to help me too, by giving me a 5 stars rating, because I am making a living from answering questions at JustAnswer and only get paid if you rate me with 5 stars, I would so much appreciate your efforts (just select 5 stars at the upper right corner of your screen and click "Submit").

Thank you very much and best regards,

Lorenz Vauck
