Customer Question

I can't get my TV to come on; with a splitter. Computer is OK
JA: Just to clarify, what's the make and model of your machine, and what operating system are you running?
Customer: I have a Windows 7, Dell 620 Inspiron.
JA: Have you installed any updates recently?
Customer: No
JA: Anything else you want the computer expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: I unpluged wiring from the computer temporarily; as i am installing carpeting. I thought I had everything reconnected. However the signal for the TV is not coming though. It comes through HGMI connection. I need help. I am not as savvy as I use to be.But I'm still trying for a 79 year old.

Hello, Les.

What exactly is connected to your tv? A cable box?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
My cable wire, which has a spliter for the computer.
Expert:  Nathan replied 6 months ago.

Is there a cable box connected to the tv?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
No thanks.
Expert:  Nathan replied 6 months ago.

You may be seeing an optional and automated ad by the site for a call or remote offer, that is optional and we can continue here, but I need specific details from you here to proceed.

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
There is a DirecTv receiver connected.
Expert:  Nathan replied 6 months ago.

Okay so the cable for computer is unrelated to this then.

What is the make/model of the tv?
What are you seeing on the tv currently? Snow? blue screen? A "no signal" message?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
What other specifics do you need ?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
There is a wireless router. The screen is just blue, and indicating "no signal"
Expert:  Nathan replied 6 months ago.

The tv issue is not related to your cable connection.

Look at the back of the tv - where exactly is the cord that is connected to the directv box connected there? hdmi1? hdmi2?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
I just discovered that a HDMI cord was not connected from the receiver to the back of the computer. I'm going to switch it on now. I'll let you know what happened.
Expert:  Nathan replied 6 months ago.

That is exactly what I was getting at, either a loose/missing cord, or the tv set to the wrong input.

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Nathan, it still did not pick up the signal. The screen still says no signal and it is a blue screen.
Expert:  Nathan replied 6 months ago.

Then you are on the wrong input,

so where did you plug it in? If hdmi2, for example, then take the tv remote and press the source/input/video button, repeatedly until you get to hdmi2 (or wherever plugged into)

I'm sorry, but I have to leave you. My wife just informed me that I have an appointment. Can we resume this later when I get back( after 9:00pm) or what do you suggest ?
Expert:  Nathan replied 6 months ago.

Yes you may get back to me later if needed, just bookmark/favorite this page, or leave it open and reply back when ready to continue.
