Hi. My name is***** you for your question and the opportunity to assist.

Does Windows Update not check for updates?

Does it check for updates but never finds any and just keeps checking?

Or does it find updates but can't install them?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
It says updates are available - and then when I click on download it just stays at zero nothing downloads and nothing installs
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
the recomended update files never get downloaded
Expert:  Byron replied 1 month ago.

Thanks. Click the start button and in the search area type: troubleshooting

and open the Troubleshooting search result. On the page in the upper left click View All

:You'll see a list of troubleshooters. The last one on the list is Windows Update.

Run that troubleshooter and see if it fixes it.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.

Expert:  Byron replied 1 month ago.

During the recovery process you'll have the option to back up files.

Do you have an external hard drive or large flash drive you can connect to the computer?

And do you have your Quicken install disk?

Expert:  Byron replied 1 month ago.

Can you read the instructions in the attachment below? When I type them in and try to send I'm getting and error.

Expert:  Byron replied 1 month ago.

This may be a networking issue. Windows update says you have updates but for whatever reason they're not

downloading. The instructions in the attachment reset the networking protocols and may get the downloads

working.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I dont think I want to do this
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
this is beyond my capabilities and I dont want to lose my files
Expert:  Byron replied 1 month ago.

Please accept the phone call offer. I dont' want to take a chance on you losing your files either.

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I have to go to work now maybe I will try again later
Expert:  Byron replied 1 month ago.

I'd rather get the updates working. We can work on that.
