let me know the make and model of the printer/scanner
its connected to the computer with usb cable?
was it scanning earlier or you are trying to scan for the first time
alright and is it connected to a different computer or the same computer it was scanning earlier.
unplug the usb cable from the computer side and power off the printer.
Remove the existing printer and scanner driver from the computer and reboot the pc after the removal.
Download the latest full featured driver from the link given below and install it.
The driver package installed will make it print and scan again.
Dont forget to connect the printer usb to the computer before installing the driver.
