Hello, and thank you for using this service.
Sorry you are having trouble. I will help you now.
What is the make (brand) and model of the PRINTER?
What's the actual model number? For example, X5650
That's actually not the model I was needing, but I've been able to determine that to be a 5600 series printer. My guess is your new computer is running Windows 10. There is limited support/compatibility with this old printer and Windows 10, but we may be able to get it working.
How are you connecting to the printer. USB cable or a network connection?
Also, to answer your previous question, this is a paid (not free) technical support service.
Hi, sounds like this is still an issue? (I just picked it up, not the same person you were previously working with.)
I will do my best. So you got this new Lenovo and have an existing printer and when you connect the printer to the Lenovo via a USB cable nothing happens?
Is it connected via a USB cable?
Yes, great idea, let's try it.
let's try something easier first. unless you have already done this, and if you have let me know.
shut down the laptop
disconnect usb cable from laptop
unplug the printer
start the laptop, wait 2 minutes
turn on the printer
plug the usb cable into the laptop
windows 10 should automatically see it and install software, if not let me know
Ugh, that's frustrating, printers can be such a pain. Give me a minute to look something up.
go to this website download and install the software/drivers
ugh, sorry, the link deleted some things. i will get the file and send it to you, will take a few, but will be easier...I like easy :)
darn it..file is too big...ok back to that website...toward the bottom there is a tab that says "download", and below that a box where you pick your OS, pick windows 8, and then pick 64 bit version, then pick download, and it will save it to your computer. make sense?
sounds like the wrong file...let me see if i can get it to you another way, give me a few...sorry this stuff takes so long
right, but lexmark quit making new software for that printer at windows 8 and sometimes windows 8 software will work with 10. if it doesn't, you'll have to break down and buy another printer...gotta love the way we are always forced to upgrade and buy more of their stuff...still working on getting file to you
yes, waiting for file to upload to a place where you can get it...uploads are 10x slower than downloads
ok click on this link or cut and paste it into your browser then download it an run it
yes, download it and run it
of course, no problem
sure, did file down load and were you able to run it?
under downloads, or it should be in the lower left of your browser window and you can click on it and select run
fingers crossed, if this doesn't work, new printer time...i usually buy the cheapest as the ink is so expensive and then i don't feel bad when i have to throw it out :)
you clicked run?
wait 2 minutes and reboot laptop...our last hope :(
ugh...time to break down and get a new printer...sorry, nope just $18, I'm working for pennies today...lol
always accepting tips though
I think so...it will walk you through the process when we close this. take care have a great day!
