Customer Question

We have an Access 2007 database using a front end and backend.
It has been working well for a number of years and recently it can up with an error “can’t find specified record” or “record set not updateable”.
After trying to use up various backups it appears there is a file number associated with the wrong name, for example:
A query on the Members file asking for 38632 comes up as 37149 and its data.
Checking the Members table, there is no such number as 38632.
A query of the Members table, inputting 38632 returns the number 37149 and its data
Deleting the number 37149 and running a query does not show 37149, however, running a query with 38632 comes up as 37149 with its data.
The results are repeatable each time.

Hi there and welcome

Have you tried to compact the back end (that holds the data)?

If not

  • Click the Tools drop down menu in main menu;
  • Click the Database Utilities item;
  • Then you will view the sub-item of Compact and Repair Database.

Choose the backend file and let it compact

When it has tell me if it still gives the error please.

Sorry but without the file I have no way to troubleshoot this.

Telling me the symptoms does not help sorry, I would need to see the database in order to work out whats going wrong.

Is it possible I can connect to your computer and then see the database on your screen?

I made the offer for this, if you accept it we can do it this way.

I have opted out of working with you further on this in the event another expert can solve this without needing the database or access to your computer

You do not need to do anything, you will be contacted when an expert takes over

Thanks
