Help! I have had Google Chrome. My PC operates under Windows

Customer Question

Help! I have had Google Chrome for years. My PC operates under Windows Vista which is no longer supported by Google Chrome. I want to upgrade to Windows 7 (only, 10) but haven't a clue on how to do this. Can you help? FYI: you're dealing with a 69 year old who has forgotten a lot of the basic PC stuff. Thankis.

Hi Jerry, my name is ***** ***** I'll be happy to help you with this!

Do you by chance know the exact make and model of your computer?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
It's a HP several years old. Try: HP Media Center,m84301. I hope this is a one time service/charge. I do not want any monthly plan.
Expert:  ChrisC replied 10 months ago.

Sure, the monthly plan is optional. As long as you did not sign up for it, then there will be no additional charges.

Let me run a check on that model number you gave me and see if I can find anything.

Expert:  ChrisC replied 10 months ago.

Jerry, by chance is that an m8430f as n Frank, instead of m84301?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
I don't see any f.........would a 'prod #' help?
Expert:  ChrisC replied 10 months ago.

Do this for me:

Hold down the Windows key (two keys to the left of the spacebar) and press the R key. This should bring up your Run box in the lower left corner. In the box, type in msinfo32 and press OK.

This should bring up a new window with a lot of information. On the left-hand column, pretty close to the top, you should see System Model. Let me know what that says.

Jerry, you still with me?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Finally, I'm back Should I press the windows and r keys now?
Expert:  ChrisC replied 10 months ago.

Hi again Jerry, I just saw that you made it back.

Expert:  ChrisC replied 10 months ago.

Yes, go ahead and try to find the model for me in MSINFO32.

Expert:  ChrisC replied 10 months ago.

Jerry, did I lose you again?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
HP Pavilion............Model; KJ376-ABA .... 8430f
Expert:  ChrisC replied 10 months ago.

Okay, excellent.

Expert:  ChrisC replied 10 months ago.

So what we need to find out are whether or not Windows 7 drivers exist for your machine. If you're not aware, the drivers are the software which tell Windows how to work with your hardware.

Expert:  ChrisC replied 10 months ago.

If the drivers don't exist, upgrading would not be possible because some of your hardware would not work.

Expert:  ChrisC replied 10 months ago.

Okay Jerry, still with me?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
d...... PC locked up on me and had to reboot. How do I find if I have the proper driver(s)?
Expert:  ChrisC replied 10 months ago.

Jerry, since we keep getting disconnected, would you prefer if we did a phone call? It's a Premium Service, but I could offer it for the minimum amount of $5.

Expert:  ChrisC replied 10 months ago.

Did I lose you again?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Did I loose you this time?
Expert:  ChrisC replied 10 months ago.

Jerry, here's the last response I sent you and I didn't get anything in return:

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
let's try it. If not of this works can I at least cancel the $47.00 charge?
Expert:  ChrisC replied 10 months ago.

Well I'll be able to provide you an answer one way or the other, i.e. whether you are able to upgrade or not. If you accept the phone call offer then you'd be agreeing to the charges because I only get paid for my time and expertise if you agree to the charges. Would you like me to send the phone call offer?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Chris........this seems to be ever more futile. I've been at this for over an hour. Right now I just wish to cancel everything and will ask for a refund. Can you confirm.
Expert:  ChrisC replied 10 months ago.

Sure, I will send over the refund request.
