Hello,

I am the person that will be helping you today.

Please, do the following as a test after you sign in.

- Wait 5 minutes.

- Press the following keys at the same time: CTRL, ALT, and DEL.

- If prompted, choose the Task Manager.

- Now you should see a window entitled Task Manager. In the top menu bar of this window, click File > New Task. In the box that comes up, type the following and click the Ok button: expLorer

(as a note, if you don't see the top taskbar, click the "More details" option first and continue with my instructions.

- When you do that, does windows load all the way?

I will be standing by, looking forward to your response.

Thank you,
Jason

Do you have the Windows 10 installation disc?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
no I updated on the internet. windows was offering a free update for people with 8.1 already
Expert:  Jason Jones replied 9 months ago.

You will need to download the Windows 10 ISO image from the Internet, burn it to cd, boot from the cd, and choose to run a repair.

You can download the tool from the following page: https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/software-download/windows10

I look forward to your update.

how do I boot from the cd if i can only sign on and it goes black?
Expert:  Jason Jones replied 9 months ago.

You will not be booting into "Windows". You will boot directly from the CD and fix it that way. I have personally done so thousands of times with no problems.

You would boot from the CD by doing the following:
- Put the cd in the computer.
- Turn the computer off and on.
- Start tapping the key responsible for choosing the boot drive (F2, F10, ESC)

- Choose the CD drive and press enter.

- Press any key to continue.

- Choose to run a "Repair".
