I'm running an Acer Aspire one A0722 with Win7 home premium.

Customer Question

I'm running an Acer Aspire one A0722 with Win7 home premium. I clicked on the Win10 offer and it failed. I decided to keep with the Win7; the problem is the Win10 updater has totally taken over my windows update. I am not allowed to choose NOT to install it, I cannot access choosing updates to install other updates or hide the Win10 offer. It constantly presents Win10 update only and I cannot UN-choose it in windows update. And, apparently it is stopping any other Win7 updates from being accessed. Tried troubleshooter with no help.

I want to completely remove the win10 insistence in the win updater
Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 10 months ago.

I sent request for remote service. Please accept it then follow steps here to connect with me.

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
I have already paid the $47, why the additional charge of $14?
Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 10 months ago.

There are two options to continue:

1) I connect remotely, and fix it. If it's not fixed; you will be refunded. (additional service for $14, regardless of the hours it takes to fix it)

2) I assist via question/answer mode. (covered in the amount paid)

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
let's try the Q&A mode first, okay?
Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 10 months ago.

No worries, please send me a screen shot of the Windows Update (History) and also tell me if you see the GET Windows 10 icon in the taskbar (lower right)

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
the GET win10 icon is still in the taskbar
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
also, quick question - is Microsoft still updating win7, I have no new updates since Dec 2015
Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 10 months ago.

Click Start, type cmd, right click cmd and chose run as administrator

in the black command prompt window, type

wusa.exe /uninstall /kb(###) ###-####/p>

press the enter key, follow instructions on screen to uninstall update, once done, let me know.

Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 10 months ago.

Customer: replied 10 months ago.

Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 10 months ago.

You need to right click it (not left click)

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
got a list I don't understand
Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 10 months ago.

May be it's best to connect remotely; you typed the command incorrectly.

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
sending dos box pic, it seems correct
Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 10 months ago.

please send screen shot of the black window where you typed the command.

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
okay
Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 10 months ago.

the command typed is incorrect, it's missing spaces. it should be exactly as below:

wusa.exe /uninstall /kb(###) ###-####/p>

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
it is now searching for update
Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 10 months ago.

There still are couple more steps, this was the easiest which is why i'd say that we do it remotely to do it quickly else it can take a lot of time.

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
it asked me to uninstall update, I clicked yes, now waiting
Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 10 months ago.

Okay. I will be typing the next steps until then.

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
says done, must restart
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
should I restart now and lose this page?
Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 10 months ago.

No, wait please. typing steps.

Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 10 months ago.

change windows update settings to only download and not install, then restart. After restarting, Hold the Windows Key and Press R. Type the following path in the run dialog,

C:\Windows\System32\

Locate GWX folder and rename it to GWX1 (don't rename anything else) otherwise it can cause corruption with system files. Once this is done, then download Autoruns from here and run it. Search for GWX and uncheck all files where description contains the word GWX. Then, reboot and see if the issue is resolved.

I just rechecked the updater panel and it is back to normal - I have no idea why. Do I still need to do the previous commands?
Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 10 months ago.

Which panel? and what is back to normal?

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
the win update panel is no longer persisting with win10 and is asking for an update search for new updates. This is normal for this panel
Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 10 months ago.

Sounds like it is, but follow the steps i provided above to get rid of Windows 10 updates completely and disable it.

Expert:  Kamil Anwar replied 10 months ago.

Don't run updates now, until the steps have been followed.
