Running a xp computer, when it boots up things start to load

Customer Question

Running a xp computer, when it boots up things start to load and then a light bulb with a x next to it appears, an icon in the lower right corner, and the computer locks up. The mouse still works, but nothing else. Clock stops, can't open or close programs, like the CPU stopped
