For Online Computer Support, Ask a Computer Technician
Hi. My name is***** you for your question and the opportunity to assist. Does the screen go black right after starting
the laptop or does it happen after logging in?
Can you tell me the model number of the Lenovo?
What was being installed that was interrupted?
Thank you. If the Windows 10 upgrade got corrupted you'll need to start over using the built in recovery utility
in the laptop. Hold down the power button until you hear it shut down (about 5 seconds)
Turn it back on and immediately start tapping the F11 key at the top of the keyboard.
Rescue and Recovery will open and you'll select the Restore your System option.
It will walk you through the process. If asked something you don't quite understand,
let me know and we'll go through it.
Can you get into regular Safe Mode?
Please do so. I'll type more instuctions.
Once in Safe Mode and at your desktop hold down the Windows logo key and press R.
In the Run box type: rstrui.exe and click OK.
This will launch System Restore.
If there is a recommended restore date, click Next and follow the prompts.
When you get the option to click Finish, the restore will begin.
I'm not sure how many restore points you will have as this is a new machine
but I'm hoping you have at least 1.
OK. Close out of that. If this is Windows 7 safe mode, click Start and in the search area type: cmd
Right-click on the cmd search result at the top of the list and select Run as Administrator.
At the blinking prompt in the black windows type: chkdsk /f /r and press Enter.
You'll get a message that the file system is NTFS and the drive cannot be locked.
You'll have the option to run chkdsk the next time the system restarts. Type: Y for yes. Press Enter and restart the machine.
chkdsk will run at restart
What does "not work" mean? Did chkdsk complete?
If it didn't what error did you receive?
Maybe there's another way to do this. In Safe Mode go to Control Panel and open Windows Update.
In the bottom left corner click Installed Updates. Look under the Installed On column
and uninstall anything from the last day or so. Left click the entry/s to select it and then the Uninstall option will become available.
If you open Control Panel and you only see a handful of icons look in the upper right corner for View by.
Use the drop-down arrow to select Large Icons.
All the entries in Control Panel are alphabetized. It's the very last one.
Did you purchase the laptop brand new?
Windows 7 was phased out in late 2012
when Windows 8 came out.

Send the laptop back to Amazon. If it's new, it's under warranty.
Tapping F11 at startup should invoke a recovery menu.
