Hi,

Welcome to Justanswer

Can you give me the model of the monitor. Are you using a vga or a hdmi cable to connect to the laptop

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
laptop is wireless, desktop is wired. monitor is Benq model ET-0007-B.
Expert:  active1065 replied 1 year ago.

SO your desktop won't power on. When did this problem start. Can you give me your desktop model also .

DO you see any flashing led's any beeping sounds when you power on the desktop

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
prob started today. believe it or not (dammit) there is no name on the comp. I bought the whole pkg from TELUS in return for switching to TELUS. The power indicator light at thefront/ bottom of the monitor is intermittent and making a slight and quiet highpitched beeping everytime the light trys to come on.
Expert:  active1065 replied 1 year ago.

Sorry for the trouble and asking so many questions. I just want to make sure i know the root problem.

As far as your description it seems like a hardware issue to me. COuld you please reboot the system and explain the beeping pattern to me.

(like 3 short beeps or 1 long, 3 short, etc. )

I may be able to tell you what exactly is the problem.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
HOLD IT!! The monitor just came on!! but just before it came on a notice said the screensaver cant run because it needs a new/updated video card. At the moment its updating drivers. don't kno more than that.
Expert:  active1065 replied 1 year ago.

Cool. Let it update the graphics driver. Let me know when done. Seems like there was a driver conflict causing your video card not to be identified by windows.

This can be fixed.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
its asked if I want to update selected drivers.
1 - Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600
2 - Realtek High Def Audio.
3 - Intel Device.
Hmmmmmm.......you think I should go ahead and hit Update?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Its from a site called DriverUpdate saying that 3 drivers are out of date.
Expert:  active1065 replied 1 year ago.

Nope. SOmething doesn;t look legit here.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
yup - I got the same feeling.
Expert:  active1065 replied 1 year ago.

That site looks like a scam.

Expert:  active1065 replied 1 year ago.

DO one thing. Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, and then, under System, clicking Device Manage

Expert:  active1065 replied 1 year ago.

Do you see any yellow exclamatory marks

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Sure does - theres shitloads of em. What shld I do - just close it oput?
Nope no yellow exclamatory marks.
Expert:  active1065 replied 1 year ago.

Yeah just close that window. That site is a scam.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ya think so too. I closed it.
Hmmm...the screen saver isn't working. Maybe I should go through control panel and reset it?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Orf just leave it as is - doesn't reely bother me.
Expert:  active1065 replied 1 year ago.

Your wish. However can you just reboot your system once to see that you are not facing the same issue

and we can close this chat.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
awright - gimme a few mins while I reboot.
Expert:  active1065 replied 1 year ago.

sure

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
this is the first time ive ever restarted the desktop. (I'm using my laptop right beside it) and this is really fukn strange but I cant find the power button onscreen. Where might it be?
Expert:  active1065 replied 1 year ago.

Just go to start and click restart system

Expert:  active1065 replied 1 year ago.

Right-click the bottom-left corner on the desktop to open the menu, choose Restart in the sub-menu.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Got it thx - its restarting. Itll take a few.
At this precise moment it looks like the old prob - intermittent light and high pitched beeping in time with the light.
Expert:  active1065 replied 1 year ago.

Hmm.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
yup - sounds and looks like the probs back.
regular med fast blinking - occaisionally interrupted by a slight dimming of the light then back to rhythmic on/off.
Expert:  active1065 replied 1 year ago.

Try powering off system .

When you power it back on keep tapping the f8 key. what happens

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
HOLD IT - the BENQ startup screen is rhythmic on/off. reeeely weird.
Ill try powering off/on.
Expert:  active1065 replied 1 year ago.

ok

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
BENQ startup screen is rhythmically on/off. am hitting f8.
Expert:  active1065 replied 1 year ago.

that's not good.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No!!
Whats yr opinion? Major virus maybe? Ive got Trend security in p[lace.
The BENQ startup screen off/on has stopped. we"re back to the rhythmic monitor light again.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
no beeping.
Expert:  active1065 replied 1 year ago.

Looks like a windows driver issue. COuld also be virus. If i could remote into your system i would have figured out the root cause.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I got no prob you remoting in.
Expert:  active1065 replied 1 year ago.

Cool. But you need to be logged into your system to allow me in. Thats a catch 22 situation we have here.

Expert:  active1065 replied 1 year ago.

Can you completely power off your system and reboot it again. This time try tapping the f5 key immediately after you press the power power button

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
will do.
gimme afew...
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
no joy.
rhythmic light and beep.
Expert:  active1065 replied 1 year ago.

Beep code pattern please.

Expert:  active1065 replied 1 year ago.

In terms of short and long beeps

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Rythmic about every second. light and beep happen at the same time. very infrequently a pause of about I/2 second for SLIGHTLY longer beep. sorry cant be any clearer than that.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
There doesn't seem to be any discernable pattern to the beeping. sometimes 7 then small pause sometimes 11/12 then small pause. have rebooted whole syst 4 - 5 times. no change.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
just rebooted monitor. 4 seconds on w/beep then off for 1 sec then on for 4 secs then off.................
that pattern lasted about 1 min then steady light/beep every sec with occaisional longer light/beep. there seems to be no predictable rhythm.
