Re: Gateway NV5931U (i3-M330 2.13Ghz, 4 gigs of DDR3 1066MHz

Customer Question

Re: Gateway NV5931U (i3-M330 2.13Ghz, 4 gigs of DDR3 1066MHz RAM in two DIMM slots):
a) Can more than 4Gb of Memory be Functionally Installed/Supported in my NV59?
b1) Can a newer i3 Version (Dual Core i3-4170 3.7Ghz) be installed?
b2) It can support More Memory; will my NV95 support more Memory with the new i3?
c) There is a i5 NV59 Version; can an i5 (with more Memory?) be put in my i3 Nv59?
d) Also, how about a Lighted Keyboard, & Part Number?
e) Where can I download a Tech Manual for my NV59 (series)?
Note. The 95 Series attracts me because it also/still has Fax support.
Thanks,
Bill

I'm checking on this for you. Please stay on this web page. Thank you.

Hi,
I'm sorry about the issue. Here are the answers:
a) Yes, you can have more than 4GB of RAM memory if you have 64-bit Windows installed. Reference:
http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Gateway/nv59-series

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/32-bit-and-64-bit-windows
b1) Unfortunately, no, you cannot upgrade the CPU processor in this laptop (unlike desktops, usually you cannot upgrade CPU, graphics card, and motherboard for almost all laptops as it's all built-in.)
b2) Memory does not depend on CPU processor; as long as the motherboard supports more than 4GB and Windows has 64-bit; this laptop's motherboard does support a maximum of 8GB RAM memory.
c) CPU processor cannot be upgraded on this laptop.
d) This laptop does not have any lighted keyboard for it. You can use a USB light if you'd like to:

e) Click on the website below for the laptop's manual:

Also, if you really need a faster CPU processor, etc., then you can purchase a faster laptop you want, then you can purchase a USB fax modem if you are okay with connecting the external fax modem to the laptop.
