My win98 computer only starts in the safe mode, my business life is buried in it. help !!

Follow the steps below to place your computer in “clean boot”

  • Click the Start orb on your Desktop
  • Type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.


If you are prompted for an administrator password ***** for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

  • On the General tab, click Selective Startup.
  • Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.
  • Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
  • Click OK.

When you are prompted, click Restart and let the computer boot in normal mode.

4-5 days, I'm able to get by in safe mode but it's really slow. Not practical at all

I'm on a work laptop for this communication. The PC in question has no web capability, sorry.

Please try this.

  1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box type, and then click OK.
  2. Click the Win.ini tab.
  3. Double-click the Windows folder.
  4. Click to clear the load= and run= check boxes.
  5. Click OK.
  6. When you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.

It's windows 98 SE, very basic. It's never had a problem. Always worked very good.

followed your steps to a T, windows screen went on as normal, screen went black with the cursor blinking at the top left corner.
this is what it does every time.

why do not you format the 98 OS?

I hope you are having all the softwares that you installed in your system. Please take backup of your entire data. and format the OS. It will definately help. You can search as well on google that how to format win98.
