My document is on a usb flash drive, word is repaginating

my document is on a usb flash drive, word is repaginating and everything is all out of the order in wich i wrote it, i could not close the file so i pressed escape and now a message says word must complete repagination before it can display text in print layout view. I also asks if i want to continue but says to didplay the text in draft view select no. i dont know what this means
