My windows 7 pro, 64 bit, Dell computer will not download

Customer Question

My windows 7 pro, 64 bit, Dell computer will not download any updates. I have the message on my Windows Update screen to"restart your computer to install important updates".
When I do so, no updates install.
When I "check for updates", I am told that Windows Update cannot currently check for updates because you must first restart the computer so that a previous installation can be completed:. Again, when I do no, nothing happens.
Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
