My Sony Vaio is a little over three years old now and for some

This answer was rated:

My Sony Vaio is a little over three years old now and for some reason the disc drive isn't working. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver (I think it's called) and pretty much everything google has to offer. I'm wondering if there's a professional that can help me instead of google and yahoo answers.

Shefin :
Hello! Thank you for your question. I am Shefin and I look forward to helping you with your issue today.
Shefin :
Please let me know when you are ready.
Customer:

Okay, I'm here

Shefin :

Do you see any error codes like Code 19?

Customer:

No, when I put the disc in my laptop it just acts like there's nothing in there

Shefin :

And you have tried deleting upper and lower filters. Right?

Customer:

I've gone to My Computer and tried opening it up there but it says application not found

Customer:

yes

Shefin :

Have you tried different discs?

Customer:

yes.

Customer:

one is a game, one was a dvd

Shefin :

Are you able to boot from any bootable disc like Windows 7 disc?

Customer:

I don't think I have anything like that

Shefin :

We have to check if the issue is with the CD/DVD drive itself.

Shefin :

If you are able to boot from any disc, the issue is not with the CD/DVD drive but with the Windows.

Shefin :

That is why I asked for bootable disc.

Customer:

can you remind me what a bootable disc is?

Shefin :

When you access the CD/DVD drive it says No disc. Right

Customer:

I'm looking through my case of cd's and discs now

Shefin :

A disc that you can boot from. You can boot from a Windows 7 or Windows XP disc.

Shefin :

Okay.

Customer:

I've got one labeled applications and drivers. I forgot I backed up my laptop a while ago

Customer:

If I do that will I lose everything on my computer?

Shefin :

Please do not so anything with it.

Customer:

okay

Shefin :

Just insert the disc, restart the computer and you may have to change the boot option in BIOS too.

Shefin :

Check if the computer boots from the disc.

Customer:

okay should I do that now?

Shefin :

Yes, please come back to me with the result.

Customer:

save & exit?

Shefin :

Yes.

Shefin :
Add this page to your Favorites/Bookmarks first, so as to get back to me.
Customer:

okay I'll do that now

Shefin :

Okay.

Customer:

Okay I'm back

Shefin :

Are you able to boot from the disc?

Customer:

When I put the disc in, before it restarted the auto-play turned on

Customer:

so it recognized that disc

Shefin :

So, the issue is not with the drive.

Shefin :

Try another disc with the coputer and check.

Customer:

okay I put in a CD with pics on it and it recognized that

Shefin :

So, try another DVD.

Customer:

trying that now

Shefin :

Okay.

Customer:

some dvds work

Shefin :

May I know the DVD that is not working?

Customer:

mean girls and crazy stupid love

Customer:

and the sims 3 into the future isn't working either

Shefin :

Insert the disc and let me know if you are able to open it.

Customer:

usually autorun starts

Customer:

it hasn't started yet

Shefin :

Please right click on the CD/DVD drive and click Open.

Customer:

oh!

Customer:

it just came up!

Shefin :

Great!

Shefin :

I am glad to hear that.

Customer:

What do you think made it work again?

Customer:

just in case anything like this happens again?

Shefin :

Have you restarted the computer after deleting Upper and lower filters?

Customer:

yes I have

Shefin :

It might be some Windows errors.

Shefin :

However, recovered it anyhow.

Customer:

True

Customer:

Well Thanks for all your help

Shefin :

If this happens again, I would suggest you restore the computer to an earlier date.

Shefin :

You are most wlecome!

Customer:

Okay, I'll keep that in mind.

Customer:

Thanks again

Customer:
