My Sony Vaio is a little over three years old now and for some

My Sony Vaio is a little over three years old now and for some reason the disc drive isn't working. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver (I think it's called) and pretty much everything google has to offer. I'm wondering if there's a professional that can help me instead of google and yahoo answers.

Do you see any error codes like Code 19?

Customer:

No, when I put the disc in my laptop it just acts like there's nothing in there

And you have tried deleting upper and lower filters. Right?

I've gone to My Computer and tried opening it up there but it says application not found

Have you tried different discs?

yes.

one is a game, one was a dvd

Are you able to boot from any bootable disc like Windows 7 disc?

Customer:

I don't think I have anything like that

We have to check if the issue is with the CD/DVD drive itself.

Shefin :

If you are able to boot from any disc, the issue is not with the CD/DVD drive but with the Windows.

That is why I asked for bootable disc.

Customer:

can you remind me what a bootable disc is?

When you access the CD/DVD drive it says No disc. Right

I'm looking through my case of cd's and discs now

A disc that you can boot from. You can boot from a Windows 7 or Windows XP disc.

I've got one labeled applications and drivers. I forgot I backed up my laptop a while ago

If I do that will I lose everything on my computer?

Just insert the disc, restart the computer and you may have to change the boot option in BIOS too.

Check if the computer boots from the disc.
