Something has changed on my Chromebook.My bookmarks icon has disappeared and my chromecast no longer shows up anywhere.

can you please clarify what do you mean by Your bookmarks icon disappeared?

can you send a screenshot?

are you refering to the bookmarks bar inside chrome?

Ehab Tutor :

if yes, you can try pressing ctrl+Shift+B at the together on your keyboard, this will toggle the show and hide of the bookmarks bar

Bookmarks bar must be new...haven't seen it b-4 this problem started

Used to have a "Favorites" "Button" to click....is no longer there

Can't find any of my saved sites

only has two that I just saved this AM

ok can you see the icon at the top right with 3 horizontal lines

click it and choose bookmarks

and then choose bookmark manager

some of the bookmarks are added to the bookmarks bar but other can be added into folders

nope...just the new ones

it seems that the bookmarks was removed accidently

unfortunatley chrome doesn't keep except a single backup which is overwritten each time you launch chrome

Chrome menu > Bookmarks > Bookmark manager > Organize > Export bookmarks to HTML file

you can use this to export your bookmark to an html file for later use if this problem ever occurs

took me 10 years to accumulate my bookmarks
