Resolved Question:

I installed windows 7 ultimate 32 bit(original os windows 7 enterprise) on a HP probook 6455b with a webcam. Since then I can't get the camera to function although I downloaded the driver

What happens when you open the software?

Could I have click Start> Right-click Computer> Select Manage> On the Right click "Device Manager" let me know if any device has a red or yellow mark next to it.

Click Start> Type "youcam" click on the application if it comes up.

Also, while you are in device manager, is there a "Imaging Devices" category listed if so, click the + and does it show your webcam there?

yes it shows it in "imaging device" as usb 2.0 camera"

Click Start>Devices and Printers. Does a webcam show up?

no

Alright, can you go to Programs and Feature and check if HP Webcam software is installed, if it is. Uninistall and let me know.

ok I uninstalled "realtex pc camera" thats all I saw

ran the new driver nothing different, thats the reatek driver, going to run the assistant now

no just dark, but i just noticed the the camera indictor (white light) came on

Also, try in skype as well, just to check.

Hmm, sounds like it may be a bad cam. Whens the last time this worked?

Before I did the install, this morning

And the only difference is that it went from enterprise to ultimate.

yes, in skype it seems to be searching.

Lets check the device manager, under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" check if you see anything that says cam.

Alright lets try this. Uninstall all the USB Controllers and the cam under device manage, restart

they reinstalled after restart

Wow, I think we have tried everything there is to try. Look in the youcam settings and make sure the contrast isn't set to max or the brightness may need to be adjusted. Other than that I don't what else to try.

Otherwise you will have to remove the cmos battery for 5 minutes to clear out that password.
