Hello, welcome to JustAnswer my name is XXXXX XXXXX I'm one of the experts who will be assisting you today.
May I ask what browser you are using, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome?
Ok good, can you go on Internet Explorer now so we can set your home page?
no, I get a "blank page"
And tell me which home page you'd like to set it to
Ok, so on that window where it says "blank page" you should see an address bar up the top where you can type www.yahoo.com
really not sure the name, but both internet explorer and yahoo are used
Or if you're on Windows 8 as suggested by your profile it will be at the bottom
I have never had such a problem previously
at the bottom of what
Could you open up Internet Explorer, even if it says blank page
no it will not open nor come up
When you click on the blue "e" icon for Internet Explorer it doesn't come up at all?
no, just "verbage.....blank page"
Ok, the blank page is part of Internet Explorer though
It's just not set to load any page right now for some reason
your guess is better than mine
What I'll get you to do is click on the Start menu and type inetcpl.cpl then hit Enter
It should bring up a small window
OK, where in the Start menu will I type
Just as soon as the Start menu comes up you may start typing
Outlook Express came up, now what
Might have typed it wrong, let's try again.Close Outlook Express
Make sure when you click Start that you type inetcpl.cpl then hit Enter
If that still doesn't work then I can show you another way
it did not work
Look at your keyboard, there's a little key with a Windows icon on it, in between the Ctrl and Alt keys respectively
Ok, press and hold that key and then press R once
OK A SMALL RUN BOX APPEARED
A little "run" box will pop up
In that box, type inetcpl.cpl then hit Enter
That should bring up an Internet Properties box
See the box at the top there that says Home Page?
What does that say?
Inside the box
when I type the box disappeared, i am trying to retrieve same
You don't need to type in that box yet, just need to know what is written inside the box
Let's open that up again
Press the Windows Key and then R once to bring up the run window
Once it comes up, hit Enter (no need to type inetcpl.cpl again)
OK internet properties came up, now what
Type in this chat window what you see in the text box at the top of the Internet Properties box
Right under Home Page
Ok, can you delete that and put www.yahoo.com
Then click Apply
Press OK and it should close
Now open up Internet Explorer again
well, a page came up but not one I am familiar with
Which one are you familiar with?
We can set it to whatever you wish
do I go back to properties page to do that
Which page are you most familiar with? We can go through it together
internet explorer.yahoo I think that is the name
I am frustrated now, do I need a new IP address
We set the home page to yahoo.com just before
No, we just need to figure out what website you usually go to so we can set it to that
But you don't need to set a home page to go to a website
If you press F6 once on your keyboard, then type the name of the website you'd like to go to, it will take you there
For example, press F6 once and then type google.com and hit Enter, this will take you to the Google website so you can search for whatever you like
I am truly frustrated now, not accomplishing anything
I am here to help you solve this with you but we cannot go far without a clear understanding of what you want to do
Windows Internet Explorer provided by Yahoo, seems to ring a bell for the home page
Yes, let me explain so you understand
To access the Internet, we use what's called a web browser, that web browser has a name, just like you and I
Its name isXXXXX
This is like a window which lets us reach certain locations, called websites
The name of the website can vary, in this case you mentioned Yahoo
The website address for Yahoo is www.yahoo.com
So what we did was set your home page to that, so it will go into Yahoo automatically every time you go on Internet Explorer
Is this what you wanted to do?
The Yahoo home page may vary from time to time as they update it constantly, so it might not always look the same
something in my memory ATT was involved in the page
Let's go back into the properties window we accessed before
We can do that by pressing the Windows Key and then R
When the run box comes up hit Enter
When the Internet Properties window comes up, in the text box we modified before, we need to remove what's typed inside and type the following:att.net
Making sure the only thing in that text box is att.net
Then press OK down the bottom
Ok, close Internet Explorer
And then open it up again
close internet explorer the one that says "yahoo"
Close it all off
After you've closed it all off, open Internet Explorer again
It should go into the ATT Yahoo home page
that is it. thank you now what
Now that we've set att.net as your home page on Internet Explorer it will come up for you automatically every time you open up the Internet
I will be willing to bet, that this has been frustrating for you as well.
Not at all!
THANK YOU THANK YOU
It's my pleasure!
Is that anything else I need to do before giving you a good service rating
Just make sure when you browse the internet, to read every popup box that comes up, thoroughly before clicking OK or YES because they sometimes prompt you to change your home page without you really understanding what you're doing
Other than that, you're good to go
well, I meant to say "excellent", just that I am slow in comprehending your instructions, sorry 'bout that
No problem =)
have a great day
You too, enjoy!
