For Online Computer Support, Ask a Computer Technician
Can you please right click on the speaker icon next to the time
and then select recording devices
Please ensure the correct device is selected as default and you will notice the green bar go up and down when you talk into it
to make it default select it and then then select set default
where is the speaker icon?
there is no icon next to the time on my screen
Sorry - stupid me - Found speaker icon and mic is set as default but nothing happens when I speak in to it.
which device are you using as a microphone?
It's a desktop mic but no brand. However it has been OK for the last 4 - 5 years
is it plugged into the pic coloured port?
and it worked OK when I tried it on a friends computer
yes the pink porty
when you click on the speaker port and then go to recording
what is listed?
sorry - yes in the pink port where it has worked perfectly until the last couple of weeks
can go you back to the recording tab where it shows the microphone
sorry didn't mean bad service - hit the wrong button
I'm on the mic on the recording tab
ok no problems
hopefully we can change it
what do you see on the list?
what list - I have properties or configure - am I in the wrong place?
do you see microphone?
with a green tick?
can you right click
and do you see disable?
can you click on that
and then until again
by clicking show disabled devices
does it come back on the list?
yes but says not plugged in
that's no good
that means it can't detect it
could be a problem with the pink port
are you plugging it at the back or front?
i think there must be a problem with the port
the speakers work fine?
so it's the pink port then
i think there could be a problem with that
if it's not detecting it
is it possible to use the blue port or do I need to take the comp to a repair shop ?
you cannot use the blue one
as it's not for audio input
ie not for microphone
you may have to take it to a repair shop or buy a USB microphone
unfortunately there's nothing else I can do but make those suggestions
OK - thanks for your help - at least I know what's wrong now. A USB mic sounds a good idea as I must be due for a new, better mic - is that what you would recommend ?
i think any will do, logitec
just depends on budget
OK ThANKS ONCE AGAIN.
