I have Vista operating system. Media Player does not show video from an .AVI file. It shows some type of screen saver? graphics instead of the video.

Hello William! Thank you for your question. I am a licensed computer professional with over ten years of experience, and I will be assisting you today.

I'm sorry about the issue. Please download and install the VLC Player program (keep all default options during installation), then it should work:

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

If needed, please download and install the K-Lite codecs program, then check:

(click on "Download Now(13,220 kb)" to download and install.)

Or if you'd like to, we can set up a screen sharing session, so I can check and fix this issue directly for you.

Is VCL player a microsoft product? If I create a DVD for some one will it play on a window operated computer?

No, VLC player is not a Microsoft product. Microsoft/Windows is just a platform, it provides some built-in programs, but for full functions, you would install third-part program on it, for example, you would install games if you play games, or you would install Adobe Photoshop if you do graphics editing, etc.

Yes, if you create a DVD for someone, it will play on a windows-based computer (they might need to install the VLC player program or K-Lite codecs program first.)

Please let me know if you still need help. I can help installing/fixing this issue directly for you. Thank you

How can I create a DVD for some one and not subject them to HAVING to install VLC?

Yes, create a DVD with .wmv movie files (instead of .avi.) Also, having VLC Player program would play almost every type of movie files/codecs; Windows media player is limited. (For example, people download video files from the Internet and cannot play some of them because the computer does not have the right video codecs/player program.)

Thank you.

my camera creats AVI files not WMV. I cannot change that.

Sorry, that is the issue. You get videos from different sources, like from the camera, or when people download video files from the Internet and cannot play some of them because the computer does not have the right video codecs/player program. People/devices use different video formats.

Having the VLC player program would play most videos. Otherwise, you would need to convert the .AVI files to .WMV files using a converter program:

, or convert directly online:

Thank you
