This answer was rated:

I have a Sony Vaio computer. For some reason the hard drive is partitioned in the C drive with only 14GB of space, but the D drive has 93GB of space. I have tried using the diskpart utility to increase the space on the C drive, but it fails.

space

Customer:

that is such a drag. why would they provide a 106GB hard drive, but only allocate 14GB to the C partition. So, I could, say install Windows 7, wiping everything out and starting over?

Computer Expert :

They give less space to c drive because it should only have windows

Computer Expert :

You can have other programs in drive d

Computer Expert :

Because if some problem happens you can install windows again and you will not loose anything

Customer:

well, every program you get wants to load onto the C drive. Some installs don't even ask, right?

Computer Expert :

because everything will be in drive d

Computer Expert :

THey do

Computer Expert :

Every program asks you can choose custom installation and choose drive d:

Computer Expert :

So you should not install things on drive c:

Computer Expert :

Customer:

I just did one that didn't. Just went ahead and installed on the Cdrive. Anyway, thanks for your help.

Computer Expert :

Computer Expert :
