I am a professional who does all of my business via tel or online so I never meet my clients face to face. Is it ok if I use a stock photo on my website?
.
Hello my name isXXXXX look forward to assisting and am very sorry to hear that you are having trouble with this.
Yes you can use a stock photo as long as you own the rights to the image.

If you buy one from a site like shutterstock for example you own the rights to it.
You can use that photo however you want, some experts on this site for example actually use stock photos (I personally do not).

ok----thanks for that insight---I am also pondering if there is anything either unprofessional about it or inappropriate and how common it is.

.
It is actually very common, some businesses use stock photos as "The Face" of their company.
Doctors offices are an example that does that very often.

So for professionals it is actually commonplace online now.
For example most if not all on this page are stock photos: Click Here

How about on Facebook?

.
On facebook some people use them their as well.
Others will use their companies logo instead, but you can still do it.

It is unethical to claim they are customers for example though.
You can only use them as an image depicting what you do ethically.

Just to be clear I am talking about a substitute for me---my face---not some other images such as supposed clients etc

.
Ok then yes you can do that and a fair amount of people and business do it.
As long as you own the rights like I mentioned before you should have no problems.
Here is an example of that, this expert uses one: Click Here
