Hi this is Michelle and i will be assisting you.
i would like to tell you that during troubleshooting we might land up or identify that the computers hardware is bad in that case please do not expect a fix as you know we can only identify the cause and will let you know what part is bad and will suggest the correct part to replace for a fix.
does the led light up on the ac adapter when its connected to the power outlet.
dont connect it to the computer now
yes it is blue
just connect it to the wall outltet
and there is a small white light just above the ac adapter connection site that is lit up and white
do you have a volt meter by any chance.
actually i think my husband does, just a moment
ok i have it
set the meter to dc volt 20 and above
insert one pin inside the adapter pin and connect the other point on the outside of he connector which is shiny steel
it must give you a reading of 19v dc
if the voltage read 19v dc then we can consider the ac adapter to be in good shape.
then we will proceed to the next steps with the computer
sorry, never used this and my husband is sleeping...the meter is on and in voltage position, how do i set it to 20?
if its set to dc then its fine
measure the voltage on the connector which goes to the computer
ok set to dc
if you look at the connect you will see a hole in it.
i am talking about the connector which goes into the comuter
the end of these pins dont fit
there is a clamp on the end of the meter like a big claw
you have two wires one red other black which has a pin like connector
this is an hvac clamp meter
yes just like you described
insert the red one to the hole on which the connector has and the other one to the outside steel portion
it will read a voltage reading
it read OL
its not set to correct dc reading
never mind if the ad adapter is bad then the led light on the adapter will not glow when connected to the wall outlet
lets move to the computer now.
remove the battery of the computer
i looked it up, overlimit
sorry for the delay, i didnt realize you had answered the screen does not show your newest answer, i have to manually scroll
did you remove the battery
now connect the ac adapter to the computer
make sure the ad adapter it on and connected to the wall outlet
press on /of button on the side, as soon as it turns on , press it again to turn it off
do this for 3 to 4 times
let me know once done.
done, now the white light does not stay on
on the adapter?
no on the computer
and the light on the adapter is lit on
yes the adapter light is on, and when I first plug it in the white light on the laptop comes on and goes immediately off, before taking the battery off it stayed on
its the charging light not to worry
it goes off because the battery is not present.
ok makes sense
pus the power button on the computer and tell me do you hear any beep code
unplug the ac adapter from the computer
flip the computer and open the memory bay at the bottom
remove the memory modules and then try connecting the power and turn on the computer
if you get 3 long beeps then it means the motherboard of the computer is good
the memory modules or one module is bad
i just removed both of the memory modules, plugged it in and pushed power no beeps
no beeps without memory module?
no there are two they are both out
sorry to say but if there is no beep codes that indicates a motherboard failure.
how old is the computer/
can you tell me the service tag number i can check the warranty
ok, so this laptop is done, it is older
i can give you options if its worth repairing.
give me a moment please
Purchase on 4/16/2010 warranty expired on 4/3/2011
ok good to know
i am looking for a refurbished or a new motherboard price
give me few mins
here are the 3 links for motherboards available at ebay amazon and parts people
you may check out the price and order
i will give you the link to a service manual so that you may replace the motherboard yourself
give me a moment
here is link below for service manual
thank you this is so much help! If I replace the mother board is there any possibility that it is anything else, or does that take care of it all?
let me know if you have any questions
there is a rare chance of memory being faulty ..other than that all other parts should be fine
you can replace motherboard and if any problem comes up just let me know and i will assist you
one last question, if we decide it is not worth fixing, what part do i remove before recycling...just the memory cards?
in case you wish to send it to recycle take the following parts out
memory, processor, hard drive and dvd drive
"Please rate the chat with smiley below if the information you got from me was helpful; else in case the above information was not helpful, instead of rating bad or poor please let me know so that i may assist you further on the issue. In case of hardware failure i can tell you what part has faulted. i would appreciate if you would rate my answer to this question considering that in case of hardware faults i can tell what part is faulty but cannot make a bad part work again".
