Hello there. Thanks for using Justanswer.
Let me know when you are ready.
I am here thanks. Should also point out that I paid Just Answer $29 om 01 May and dealt with a tech called Viet followed by Marco which produced no results and added confusion about my email. So have now paid JA $67 so hopefully will get a result!

Do you have any computer connected with the Tenda router right now ?
The existing set up of using my new laptop with satellite broadband works well. All I want to do is extend this use to my old laptop in another room. The Tenda is connected by cable to the NBN modem which is a Skyedge

Tenda router is connected to the NBN satellite . Right ?
no it is not. I have two cables, one goes from A to the satellite modem and the other goes from the router to B. Are you saying I need
a third cable?
Oh . Yes , I was talking about the third cable. Leave it .
Does Laptop B have Wifi ?

Anything in device manager?

Remove the cable connected with Tenda and connect it to Laptop B .
If I do will have to lose you for a while and transfer cable from A to B OK?
You dont have to remove the cable connected with Laptop A.
Remove the cable connected with Tenda and connect it to Laptop B.
I am wondering about the socket I am using on the NBN modem for the second cable as the ethernet light is not coming on
I think your laptop B have some problem with that Wifi Card.

Can you see a network icon on the Taskbar ? Near the speaker bottom right corner.
Click on it and check if you see Tenda .
Can you please refresh this page now.
I am not getting your chats.

Tenda does not appear in the icon box
I think there is some problem with Tenda.
It must be shown on your Laptop A, as the Wireless is enabled.
Is it under warranty ?
only just received it so it would be still under warranty
Before that , Let me ask.
Do you have a Wifi enabled phone ?
If you have a Wifi enabled phone . Check if Tenda is shown in its wifi settings.
dont think so just an ordinary land line and a pretty basic mobile phone. no smart phones here!
Then better try to replace the modem.
I think the modem Wifi is not working .
Replace the modem. Follow the steps : Give the password XXXXX the WLAN security settings.
And it will be shown in your Laptop A.
are you saying that A should be able to communicate with Tenda although not cable connected?
If the Wifi on the Tenda is working, The Laptop A can communicate with the Tenda without wires.
it is working with B although that is with a cable connection
Yes. Cable connection is not having any problem.
But the Wireless connection is not working.
so if I get a replacement, can I use that connection as shown manage network connections?
If the wifi is working on the Tenda, Then you don't need any wires to connect the laptops.
After the replacement , configure the router as before. Login to 192.168.0.1 , Go to Wireless security settings, Select WPA-Personal , Give the password.
After that it will be shown on the Laptop A.

Let me know if you need any help.
Have a nice time.
Have now established wireless connection between laptop A and Tenda.
The problem was that on this new laptop the wifi radio had not been switched on!!
Just need to establish internet acces with laptop B
Install this software on Laptop B
After that Restart the computer, and check if you see Tenda in Wireless networks.
( Do not forget to turn on WiFi :))
sorry for the delay but trying to work out to download this to B without running it on A as cant connect to dell on B at this stage without intern et access.
OK have done that. Have tried the cable from laptop B to either yellow or blue wan port but still shows only local area connection with limited or no internet connectivity.
I only have two cables so that what you are suggesting would require a third. Even if this were possible, how can you have laptop B in another room if both it and the satellite are connected to Tenda? Should not Tenda be connected to say laptop A and the satellite and laptop B receive internet access by wifi in the other room? Incidentally the NBN satellite device is a Giltat SkyEdge IIip if that helps.
Yes I installed R46482 on laptop B
not a wireless adapter as such but under network tasks 'set up a wireless network for a home or small office' is listed. Any use?
network adapters only shows 3C920 Fast Ethernet Controller and there is no PCI listing. To make sure I reinstalled R46482.exe and watched the wizard do the set up and state that the Mini PCI etc had been successfully installed and ready. So where has it gone?
in control panel there is a listing for True Mobile Wireless Utility which when opened says that there are currently no wireless adapters available and enabled, please enable any available adapters before accessing this configuration utility. Is this what you are talking about? In the Inspiron 8200 owners manual under communications it lists under wireless an internal Mini PCI WiFi (802.11b) wireless support. Do you think support means adding a card?
does not do anything.
have found dell CD that lists a True Mobile 1150 series Mini PCI Card Client Manager for Win XP that came with the 8200. Did an installation which I think shows up in the Device Manager as PCI bus. Does have some relevance?
Local area connection with limited or no connectivity. Firewalled 3Com 3C920 Integrated Fast Ethernet Controller. If you expand that it quotes an IP address Subnet mask, automatic private address and IPv6 enabled
does it plug into A or B. Does Tenda go with B to the other room and if so does the cable from B goes to the blue WAN port?
as I said before, I had some doubts as to the status of the second port on the Gilat SkyEdgeIIip satellite device. Just tried swapping the cable from A to this port and it does not connect to the internet. So unless there is such a thing as a twin connecting cable ie two cables joined together that only requires one port access, then I'm up the creek again. Or will A also be able to receive signals from the Tenda?
did not have internet by connecting the cable from A to WAN in Tenda. When you say connect A to Tenda using wifi, is that automatic or do I have to do something. Sorry to be so dum
did not have a win. clicking on Tenda in bottom rh box only goes from connect to disconnect so no request for password etc
correct. Double clicking on Tenda only toggles between connect and disconnect. However in the top box it still shows Tenda no internet access. If you right click on Tenda it shows on tghe status setting that IPv4 and IPv6 have no internet access
IPv4 address 192.168.0.101 default gateway 192.168.0.1
sorry but where do I enter 192.168.0.1?
sorry I have that site up but cannot see how you log in. It just talks about default IP address explained and then shows how to access the ipconfig you got me to access earlier!!
bingo - we have internet access on Tenda wirelessly from A
OK just to make sure I have this right. After the adapter is installed on B I can then move this laptop to the other room and Tenda will connect with it by wireless. If this works will definitely by you a beer!
