Have now established wireless connection between laptop A and Tenda.

The problem was that on this new laptop the wifi radio had not been switched on!!

Just need to establish internet acces with laptop B

Thanks

Expert:  Nimman replied 1 year ago.

Install this software on Laptop B

http://tinyurl.com/ccfg2kz

After that Restart the computer, and check if you see Tenda in Wireless networks.

( Do not forget to turn on WiFi :))

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

sorry for the delay but trying to work out to download this to B without running it on A as cant connect to dell on B at this stage without intern et access.

Expert:  Nimman replied 1 year ago.
Take your time.

There is an option, Download the program on Laptop A, Copy it to a Pen drive or flash drive. Connect that flash drive to Laptop B. Install it.

And follow the steps above.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

OK have done that. Have tried the cable from laptop B to either yellow or blue wan port but still shows only local area connection with limited or no internet connectivity.

Expert:  Nimman replied 1 year ago.
You need to connect Satellite and Tenda using a cable in WAN port (Blue one ). Then connect the laptop to the yellow port in Tenda.

Let me know what happens.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

I only have two cables so that what you are suggesting would require a third. Even if this were possible, how can you have laptop B in another room if both it and the satellite are connected to Tenda? Should not Tenda be connected to say laptop A and the satellite and laptop B receive internet access by wifi in the other room? Incidentally the NBN satellite device is a Giltat SkyEdge IIip if that helps.

Expert:  Nimman replied 1 year ago.
Have you installed the driver software I gave you before ?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Yes I installed R46482 on laptop B

Expert:  Nimman replied 1 year ago.
Go to XXXXXXX XXXXX / Network Connections and check if you see a Wireless adapter there.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

not a wireless adapter as such but under network tasks 'set up a wireless network for a home or small office' is listed. Any use?

Expert:  Nimman replied 1 year ago.
Open the device manager. Check if you see Mini PCI Wi-fi under Network devices or PCI .

Are you sure that its not shown there?

Look at network connections . It looks like this

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/Bb457017.wifitr01_big(l=en-us).gif
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

network adapters only shows 3C920 Fast Ethernet Controller and there is no PCI listing. To make sure I reinstalled R46482.exe and watched the wizard do the set up and state that the Mini PCI etc had been successfully installed and ready. So where has it gone?

Expert:  Nimman replied 1 year ago.
Are you sure that you have WIFI PCI card in your Laptop ?

I think its better to buy a USB wifi adapter which is less than 5$ . Then you can WIFI with that USB card.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

in control panel there is a listing for True Mobile Wireless Utility which when opened says that there are currently no wireless adapters available and enabled, please enable any available adapters before accessing this configuration utility. Is this what you are talking about? In the Inspiron 8200 owners manual under communications it lists under wireless an internal Mini PCI WiFi (802.11b) wireless support. Do you think support means adding a card?

Expert:  Nimman replied 1 year ago.
The Mini PCI wifi was optional. Not all Dell Inspiron 8200 came with that Wifi card. Can you try FN+F2 . I think its a key to enable Wireless on your computer. Let me know what happens.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

does not do anything.

Expert:  Nimman replied 1 year ago.
Do you remember you installed WiFi during the purchase? It was an optional card. I think you haven't installed it because WiFi was not common at that time.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

have found dell CD that lists a True Mobile 1150 series Mini PCI Card Client Manager for Win XP that came with the 8200. Did an installation which I think shows up in the Device Manager as PCI bus. Does have some relevance?

Expert:  Nimman replied 1 year ago.
Now check if you see Wireless adapters available in Network connections .
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

unfortunately no

Expert:  Nimman replied 1 year ago.
What do you see there?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

Local area connection with limited or no connectivity. Firewalled 3Com 3C920 Integrated Fast Ethernet Controller. If you expand that it quotes an IP address Subnet mask, automatic private address and IPv6 enabled

Expert:  Nimman replied 1 year ago.
I think its better to buy a USB wifi adapter.

You can buy something like this

http://tinyurl.com/bq8xqg8

You can connect to Wifi by just plugging this to the USB port on your laptop.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

does it plug into A or B. Does Tenda go with B to the other room and if so does the cable from B goes to the blue WAN port?

Expert:  Nimman replied 1 year ago.
It can work on any computers which have a USB port. In this case, Connect this USB adapter on the Laptop B. Then connect a cable from the satellite and to the blue port on the Tenda. Then connect the Laptop B using the WiFi after connecting the USB adapter.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

as I said before, I had some doubts as to the status of the second port on the Gilat SkyEdgeIIip satellite device. Just tried swapping the cable from A to this port and it does not connect to the internet. So unless there is such a thing as a twin connecting cable ie two cables joined together that only requires one port access, then I'm up the creek again. Or will A also be able to receive signals from the Tenda?

Expert:  Nimman replied 1 year ago.
Connect the cable which have internet to the WAN port of the Tenda. Connect the Laptop A to Tenda using Wifi. Wait 2 minutes , Because it may take some time to assign IP address on the Laptop A. Check if you have internet after that.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

did not have internet by connecting the cable from A to WAN in Tenda. When you say connect A to Tenda using wifi, is that automatic or do I have to do something. Sorry to be so dum

Expert:  Nimman replied 1 year ago.
Disconnect Lan cable from Laptop A .Connect the cable which have internet ( the cable which is connected to Laptop A ) to the WAN port of Tenda (Blue one) . After that Click Start > Control Panel > Network and sharing center. Click Adapter settings ( Make sure that Wifi is enabled on Laptop A).

Then Right click on that Wireless and ( Enable it if its disabled ) , Select Connect / Disconnect . Then a box will pop up on the bottom right corner, You will see Tenda there. Double click on it. It may ask you the password. If it asks password , Enter the password XXX set before ( that 8 or more digit password ) .

Let me know after that.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

did not have a win. clicking on Tenda in bottom rh box only goes from connect to disconnect so no request for password XXX

Expert:  Nimman replied 1 year ago.
Ok. Do you have internet when it shows connected ?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

fraid not

Expert:  Nimman replied 1 year ago.
The cable from the satellite which have internet is connected to WAN port of Tenda , and the WiFi on laptop A shows connected, and there is no Internet on Laptop A ?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

correct. Double clicking on Tenda only toggles between connect and disconnect. However in the top box it still shows Tenda no internet access. If you right click on Tenda it shows on tghe status setting that IPv4 and IPv6 have no internet access

Expert:  Nimman replied 1 year ago.
Make sure that Laptop is "Connected" to Tenda wirelessly. Then Click Start> All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt .

Type ipconfig and press Enter.

Tell me the IPV4 address and Default Gateway address you see there.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

IPv4 address 192.168.0.101 default gateway 192.168.0.1

Expert:  Nimman replied 1 year ago.
Then go to 192.168.0.1 . Enter username and password.

Select WAN medium. Select Wired WAN and press apply.

Save and reboot the router.

Wait 2 minutes until the router comes online. Check if you have internet using WiFi. ( Make sure that the internet cable is connected to the WAN port of Tenda )
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

sorry but where do I enter 192.168.0.1?

Expert:  Nimman replied 1 year ago.
After connection Tenda using WiFi on Laptop A , Open Internet explorer and Enter 192.168.0.1 and press Enter. Then follow the steps above.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

sorry I have that site up but cannot see how you log in. It just talks about default IP address explained and then shows how to access the ipconfig you got me to access earlier!!

Expert:  Nimman replied 1 year ago.
You got that site, Right ? The Login means entering the Username : admin and the Password : admin when it asks. Can you see WAN medium on that site ?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

bingo - we have internet access on Tenda wirelessly from A

Expert:  Nimman replied 1 year ago.
Great ! Now things are simple. Buy a USB WiFi adapter. Connect it to the Laptop B. Connect the Laptop B to the WiFi . Use wirelessly. :)
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

OK just to make sure I have this right. After the adapter is installed on B I can then move this laptop to the other room and Tenda will connect with it by wireless. If this works will definitely by you a beer!

Expert:  Nimman replied 1 year ago.
Sure it will. Buy that adapter and a beer :) . Let me know if you have any trouble.

Good luck.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
sorry to be back again but since we last spoke I have been trying to make a Realtek USB adapter open an internet connection on B without any success. Have tried so many things that my brain is shot! Some times the appropriate symbols appear on the task bar and it looks as though I am connected but then it drops out. Some times it will reconnect only to drop our a few seconds later. The Realtek general tab in the config box the green bars indicate 100% signal strength and 100% link quality but then disappear. In the same box there is a network address box which lists MAC address, IP address, subnet mask and gateway. Only the MAC address is shown all others show nothing and I cant find a way to enter anything! Help??
