Each time I start up my Lenovo T410, it does a check-hard-drive test, looking for problems. The first time it did this, I then did the error-checking function on the hard drive, but that didn't seem to solve the problem. My company's local IT guy says that this means there is a problem with the hard drive and it may crash at any time. I live in Rome, Italy. What do you recommend I do? Can this be analyzed online, or do I need to bring the computer to a specialist?... John XXXXXXXX
My name is XXXXX XXXXX X'XX be assisting you with this issue.
Hi John, yes it does sound like the hard drive is about to crash.
As another test what you can do is run a comprehensive checkdisk
click start and in the search box type: cmd
and then press enter
Thank you, XXXXX XXXXX have done this.
it will come up with a black window
type: chkdsk -f -x -r
and press enter
"Invalid parameter - -x"
sorry i forgot to put your drive in there and wrong syntax:chkdsk c: /f /x /r
you will then need to reboot
and then depending on the size of your hard disk it will check if there's any bad sectors
Are you sure this is what I need to do? This is what it already does every time I reboot...
it doesn't do a comprehensive sector by sector scan
the command I provided does
okay, so I should reboot now? Then how do I get back in touch with you?..
but before you do that. just backup your files

I did what you advised, but it didn't solve the problem. Can you still help me?
so it still does a check hard drive every time you restart?
ok it's possible the hard drive is about to crash
are you using windows 7?
ok we can force it to not do the check anymore
but not highly recommended
but in the meantime, i should look into getting another computer?...
no you can buy another hard disk
to replace the existing one
so that's pretty much the only option?
you can disable that message
but if it keeps coming up it's saying that there could be a problem with the hard disk
okay, well, at least we know the status. any other advice?
just backup you data
because if you get a local technical to replace the hard disk they may not backup your important files
if you want to remove the message you can follow the instructions <click here>
do you have any other questions?
No other questions. Thank you.
