Hi, I will assist with this issue.
Does it have windows 7?
Can you turn off the hp slate, then connect a USB keyboard to the hp slate, then turn it back on, then press the key F11 when the computer logo (or the first thing) appears on the screen in order to do a factory restore?
If that does not work, do you have the windows disk or recovery/restore disk? Do you have an external USB cd/dvd drive?
Please let me know. Thank you,
Yes it has windows 7, I will try the off and F11 step and get back to you in a few.
ok, thank you.
Does not seem to be working
Sorry, what happens when you do the F11 key method? Do you have the windows disk or recovery/restore disk? Do you have an external USB cd/dvd drive?
nothing seems to happen with the F11, it seems like the slate is not reading the keyboard until it gets to the password XXXXX
As for the disk, I have them, but do not have a external USB dvd drive
When you power up the slate, does it show any option at the first screen?
Are you able to go to bios/setup menu?
hp and the press [-] ket for start menu at bottom left
I dont know how to get to the bias/setup menu
can you press that ?
I did something and now we are at startup repair...should I try to stop that or does that mean I might have gotten someplace...
What are all the options?
It is now asking if I want to restore the computer using system restore///
/// was no typo
Is there any other option?
screen locked and will not let me....ugh
sorry, try to press whatever it says
so it will not respond to the keyboard, I am trying the touch screen now
ok, please try
Try F10 key
Try other USB port
working on it
so it keeps taking me to the password XXXXX and not responding to the f11, f8 or [-]
Sorry, I'm not sure why any option does not work, but let me open your issue to other Professionals. Thank you,
Please do not wait; you will get an email/reply when there is an answer. Thank you,
Hello,It appears that the system do not have a recovery partition, the only way to restore the system would be to use the recovery discs or operating system disc. Since you do not have any external USB CD/DVD drives, you can try the following options:Option AIf you have a USB flash drive, then you can create a password XXXXX disc from your working computer, connect the flash drive to HP slate, try to boot from it and then reset your forgotten password. The steps to create a bootable flash drive is as follows1 On your working computer, download ISO image file for UBCD from the following link http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.htmlIf you are unable to download the ISO image file from the above link, use the following linkhttp://tinyurl.com/6h5cd9y2 Once the ISO file is downloaded, use the following guide to create a bootable flash drivehttp://www.pendrivelinux.com/install-and-boot-ultimate-boot-cd-ubcd-from-a-usb-device/3 Now connect the flash drive to HP slate. Turn it on and press - (volume down) button to to enter bios setup. Press + button to select System Configuration, press Home.
Then goto Boot Options-> Boot Order. You will need to select your flash drive from the list of available devices using "+" and "-" buttons. To confirm your selection, press "home" button at the top of the device.
Once changes are made, press Ctrl+alt+del (security) button at the top of slate, select Exit saving changes, press Home(volume up/down keys will act as arrow keys, home key will act as Enter)
Once it start from the USB flash drive you will see the following menu4 Goto Parted Magic (using +, - button), press Home5 Once parted magic starts, try to run PCLoginNowThe following link will provide a step by step guide on how to use PCLoginNow to reset passwordhttp://www.pcloginnow.com/loginnow_guide.htmlOption BCheck the discs you received with your HP Slate. You probably have a Windows 7 installation disc. If so, you can create a USB flash drive from your working computer from which you can install a fresh copy of Windows on HP slate. The following guide will descrive how to setup the flash drivehttp://www.thinkcomputers.org/install-windows-7-from-a-usb-flash-drive/http://www.maximumpc.com/article/howtos/how_to_install_windows_7_beta_a_usb_key?page=0,0Then connect the flash drive to HP slate, try to boot from it. Once it boots from flash drive, Windows setup will begin. And then re-install WindowsOption CYou can get a USB flash drive with automated system recovery from HP and use that flash drive to restore the system to factory defaults.
