This answer was rated:

my Dell inspiron 1545 won't power on, no lights, and I replaced the DC board. what would yu check next? Could the power button be the culprit?

BrianPKelly :

Hi there, My name is XXXXX XXXXX I would be happy to assist you today.

BrianPKelly :

First off all, let me ask

BrianPKelly :

When you plug the power cable in, do you atleast get the battery charging light on the front?

Customer:

no lights at all.

BrianPKelly :

hmm.. Thats not a good sign

BrianPKelly :

That rules out the power button

BrianPKelly :

You would atleast get that light

BrianPKelly :

Try this for me

Customer:

no i googled the issue earlier and replaced the small DC board i suspect the mother board now.

BrianPKelly :

remove the battery completely and unplug it. Then push the power button several times to discharge any energy built up

BrianPKelly :

Then try it again

BrianPKelly :

honestly thats what I suspect as well

BrianPKelly :

but

BrianPKelly :

Every once in while the steps above can make a change

Customer:

did that but I had just disassembled and reassembled the laptop

BrianPKelly :

ah ok

BrianPKelly :

You know there is really only two possibilities here

BrianPKelly :

The power adapter or the otherboard

BrianPKelly :

Heres what I would do

Customer:

i even used another dell power supply

BrianPKelly :

ah ok

BrianPKelly :

well if youve already used another power supply

BrianPKelly :

I was going to recommend getting a universal one from Bestbuy and just returning it if that didnt work

BrianPKelly :

well It seems like you just really needed to confirm your suspicions, and based upon what you have already tried, I think its a fairly safe bet you are looking at a motherboard

Customer:

I am doing this for a friend and needed that second opinion.

BrianPKelly :

I can assist with getting data off the laptop if youd like

BrianPKelly :

I understand

BrianPKelly :

yeah it seems pretty cut and dry

Customer:

Yea that's what I thought. that would help as it suyggest two video configs

BrianPKelly :

Im sorry can you elaborate on that last statement

Customer:

I looked at two motherboards and one had a different vieo card then the other. one looked to be a higher performance

BrianPKelly :

oh so youre looking at replacing the board then?

Customer:

I'm offering the option to my friend to see if they want to invest the $150

BrianPKelly :

You know as cheap as they are now Id just get a new one

BrianPKelly :

but thats certainly an option

Customer:

used tehe laptop is worth about $299 so it might be worth it to them.

BrianPKelly :

ah yeah for sure

BrianPKelly :

Do you ened any input from me on that?

BrianPKelly :

*need

Customer:

No, thanks I got all the numbers here. I appreciate bouncing the idea around.

Customer:

I might suggest they go to a new PC the prices are right these days.

BrianPKelly :

NOt a problem. Just come back if you need more input. Otherwise, please do rate my answer if you found this helpful

BrianPKelly :

Yeah I got a brand new Dell from Bestbuy a month ago for 400

BrianPKelly :

it has a 17 inch screen and all sorts of extras

BrianPKelly :

its also an inspiron

BrianPKelly :

Im using it now actually

Customer:

Inspiron? what model?

That's what I'm thinking for myself. I'll let her know.

BrianPKelly :

Inspiron N7110

Customer:

cool. I look that up and let her know. Have a good one I'm going to head out. How do I rate this so you get paid?
