my Dell inspiron 1545 wont power on, no lights, and I replaced

Resolved Question:

my Dell inspiron 1545 won't power on, no lights, and I replaced the DC board. what would yu check next? Could the power button be the culprit?

First off all, let me ask

When you plug the power cable in, do you atleast get the battery charging light on the front?


 

Customer:

no lights at all.


 

BrianPKelly :

hmm.. Thats not a good sign


 

BrianPKelly :

That rules out the power button


 

BrianPKelly :

You would atleast get that light


 

BrianPKelly :

Try this for me


 

Customer:

no i googled the issue earlier and replaced the small DC board i suspect the mother board now.

remove the battery completely and unplug it. Then push the power button several times to discharge any energy built up


 

BrianPKelly :

Then try it again


 

BrianPKelly :

honestly thats what I suspect as well

Every once in while the steps above can make a change

did that but I had just disassembled and reassembled the laptop

You know there is really only two possibilities here

The power adapter or the otherboard

i even used another dell power supply

well if youve already used another power supply

I was going to recommend getting a universal one from Bestbuy and just returning it if that didnt work

well It seems like you just really needed to confirm your suspicions, and based upon what you have already tried, I think its a fairly safe bet you are looking at a motherboard

I am doing this for a friend and needed that second opinion.

yeah it seems pretty cut and dry

Yea that's what I thought. that would help as it suyggest two video configs

I looked at two motherboards and one had a different vieo card then the other. one looked to be a higher performance

oh so youre looking at replacing the board then?


 

Customer:

I'm offering the option to my friend to see if they want to invest the $150

You know as cheap as they are now Id just get a new one

but thats certainly an option

used tehe laptop is worth about $299 so it might be worth it to them.

I might suggest they go to a new PC the prices are right these days.

Yeah I got a brand new Dell from Bestbuy a month ago for 400

it has a 17 inch screen and all sorts of extras
