Hiya, My name is XXXXX XXXXX will be assisting you with your issue today. I will help you to the best of my ability.

Comcast blocks port number 25 for unknown reasons and the port must be changed.

How do you get your email? Through a hub such as outlook or live mail etc?

Thanks Mike

Customer replied 230 days and 21 hours ago.

I have internet explorer that i click on to go to the xfinity web site and then into my e-mail box. Is this what you need? If not where would I go to find out the hub?

Thankyou, no thats perfect. As long as you are accessing through the web and not a hub such as live mail thats no problem.

Ok basically this is where you stand.

In an effort to help prevent spam and ensure the security of the comcast network and customers, Comcast has modified your modem’s settings to prevent the sending of email on port 25. That is the default port email programs such as Outlook Express use to send email. They have taken this action because they may have detected virus-like activity from your modem or received reports from other email providers that mail from your modem generated complaints from their users.

Because you are using comcast webmail they dont offer a way to change the porting arrangement.

The only way to get the port unblocked is to call Comcast Customer Security Assurance at 1-856-317-7272. You will need to ask the technical rep to remove the block for you. They will do it and warn you that it can happen again at any time. Then they will suggest the more expensive business class account so that this will not happen again.

Thanks Mike

Oh Brother, then why did this just start? Also when my screen comes up with my scanned material to download, another screen comes up behind it that says junk mail and it says from Live mail. There are like 718 e-mail in that folder, where has this come from...it also looks as if all of my e-mail are going in there as well. How can I delete this Live mail thing and would that un block me to scXXXXX XXXXXke I always have done. This just started to happen

Ok now thats a whole new can of worms. Your email MUST be tied to windows live mail which is an email hub which had to be setup by somebody and configured.

Now I can help you configure windows live mail which will open the port up and alot easier than going through comcast directly :-)

Follow these steps exactly in windows live mail.

  1. choose Tools
  2. choose Accounts
  3. go to the Mail tab
  4. click on your Comcast account to highlight it
  5. choose Properties
  6. go to the General tab
  7. under Mail Account, enter whatever you'd like to call this account, like John Doe on Comcast
  8. under User Information, enter Name (whatever you want to appear on your messages)
  9. enter E-mail address (your full Comcast email address)
  10. check "Include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing"
  11. go to the Servers tab
  12. "My incoming mail server is a" POP3 "server"
  13. Incoming mail is mail.comcast.net
  14. Outgoing mail is smtp.comcast.net
  15. enter your Account name or Email user name (your Comcast user ID, the part before "@comcast.net" in your email address)
  16. enter your Password
  17. check "Remember password"
  18. make sure “Logon using Secure Password XXXXX (SPA)” is NOT checked
  19. check “My server requires authentication”
  20. choose Settings
  21. choose “Use same settings as my incoming mail server”
  22. click OK
  23. go to the Advanced tab
  24. check both boxes for “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)”
  25. change port number to 995 for incoming, 587 or 465 for outgoing
  26. bump up the Server Timeouts slider to the high end

Note: With Windows Live Mail - Leave the box ticked which says, "clear text authentication"

To configure live mail will mean not going through comcast.

Those are your 2 choices basically. Either call comcast on that phone number I gave or use the above configuration to fix this quickly!

Thanks Mike

Oh boy, if I do all this, I don't want to mess everything up. I don't even know how to get into that Live Mail screen....it just pops up when I scan something and shows all my e-mail and junk that is in it. If I follow your direcctions, will this wipe out my comcast acct. and address and not come in on internet expl. and ifnity.....oh HELP ! I am so-o-o-o confused.

Its ok Vicky, do not fear!!!!

WHATEVER HAPPENS your comcast account will be COMPLETELY untouched on the web server through your internet explorer. No concern there.

As long as you follow my instructions step by step you will have success :-)

You can Access your windows live mail by clicking start button on your desktop then in search box at the bottom just type in LIVE

You will see windows live mail come up in PROGRAMS as a result of the search

Just click on it to open and follow the instructions.

Obviously take your time with it to make sure its done right.

You will be fine, have faith in yourself :-)

If you are very concerned on this, perhaps call that number I gave you and see if they will assist you remotely. Its possible.

Customer replied 230 days and 20 hours ago.

OK when I go to the start and pull up live...the mail live comes up, I click on it and the whole mail box come up with all my mail in it. There is no way to click out of it and there is nothing at the top that says tool, or accounts, it is just like an e-mail box. HELP

Hi Vicki, I can tell that you are not comfortable with this and doing this blindly like this may not be a good idea. Please will you call comcast on the number I gave and just tell them you need port 25 unblocked. It will be very quick and will have this problem resolved in 5 mins. Again, Im just thinking of you and what is easiest for you to get this resolved.

Thanks Mike

Call them straight back! I have comcast also and they usually are very good about this.
They often call back after a disconnect, if not call back and they will have record of where you left off.

Customer replied 230 days and 19 hours ago.

I tried calling back and got a different person....she knows nothing and can not find the person I was talking too.....I am at a stand still....Should I just uninstall Windows Live Mail or just give up....I don't know what to do now.....tired and can't think....

The problem is here that even uninstalling windows live mail will not fix the problem as comcast has to unblock your port 25 for the scan to email to work for you.

If I was you, id take a break and unfrustrate yourself from the situation and call them back.
This will be your only method of success for the scan to email to work :-(
