Customer Question

The movement of the lid on my Toshiba A500 laptop seems to effect the sound and screen colour whilst using Skype.It is as though a cable is trapped at the hinge area

Already Tried:
By moving the lid angle it sometimes clears the fault, but now the voice sound of my Skype contact is lost

Hello! My name is XXXXX XXXXX X will assist you solve your problem.



All laptops, including Toshiba A500 have a microphone and a webcam located at the top of the lid. There is also a WiFi antenna.

However, all wires go through the hinge area you mentioned so it could be one of them got pressed too much, thus causing problems with microphone, webcam or WiFi since one of more wires cannot be properly connected with the motherboard.

Since this is definitely a hardware problem, you can take your laptop for a repair, especially if it is under warranty. Leaving it as it is and constantly moving the lid could worsen the situation and possibly damage other wires that go through the hinge area as well.
