I HAVE TWO HP PAVILIOH ELITR m9040n desk tops. ONE UNIT HAS A FAULT MOTHERBOARD, AND HP TECH HAS ALREAEY CNFIRMED. HOWEVER, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ICAN REMOVE THE HD AND RUN IN ON THE OPERATING UNIT AS AN ADDITIONAL HD?POSSIBLY WIH SOME TYPE OF A B SWITCH. THAT WAY I CAN ACCESS ALL MY FILESFROM MY HD.THANK YOU,JOE ZOLNER/XXXXX@XXXXXX.XXX

What kind of hard disk is it (SATA or PATA) ?

Ok.What you need to do is as follows:1> Remove the working harddisk2> Not down whether it is SATA or PATA.. because connectors will be different for both.3>Now you have two options. Connect the harddisk as a slave drive or even better option is to get an external casing. They look something like thishttp://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=92&name=External-EnclosuresThey are cheap and will be available in any good computer store nearby.4>insert your harddrive into the casing.It will act like an external harddrive.5>Plug it into the usb port and retrieve your data.Regards.
