Various computer errors

Customer Question

I am working on a friends computer that I suspect has contracted some sort of virus and has multiple issues that seem to relate to various missing or corrupt dll files. OS is Windows 7 32bit On startup LogonUI.exe throws a Bad Image error reading Windows\System32\VaultCredProvider.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or contains an error once I press OK to dismiss the error the login screen appears as normal no issues Internet explorer crashes as soon as it opens with no explanation, google chrome works fine About 20% of the programs on the computer fail to run and give an error message indicating a missing or corrupt dll file or in some cases claiming that the wrong version of the program is installed (32 vs 64 bit) which I know for sure is not the case. Most Control panel options do not work such as system restore and remote assistance This exact problem happened to the same computer about a year ago and the only way I was able to resolve it was to completely wipe and re-install windows, but I hope you can suggest a better resolution. I would like to figure out what would cause this problem to prevent it from reoccurring. any ideas?

Hello Sir/Madam,

Welcome to Just Answer.com. My name is XXXXX XXXXX X will assist you today. Press Ctrl+D to return back to this page anytime easily.

I will help you step by step:

A. Please stop the startup programs to load automtatically:

Click Start, in the search box, please type msconfig and hit Enter. You will see system configuration utility. On this on the top right hand side corner, please click Tab Startup. Now, at the bottom on the right hand side, please click Disable All . Please click Apply and OK. Now, you will see an option, Restart. please click Restart.

B. I would suggest you to scan your computer using the free version of anti-malware software. This will remove all of the malwares, spywares, viruses from the computer.

Note: If you have antivirus programs like Norton, mcafee, CA, kaspersky installed on the computer, still I suggest you to download and install Malwarebytes as the Anvirus program does not remove Malwares generally.

Please open the following link and download free version of malwarebytes.

http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

Please click download the latest verion on the top left hand side and install it.

After that, click Quick scan and click start.

It will take around 10-15 minutes to scan. Once the scan is complete. You will see a link, "Select All". You will click "Select All". After that you will click "Remove Selected"

Then you will see a pop up with options, Yes or No. Click Yes and this would restart your computer.

C. Reset Internet Explorer:

Launch Internet explorer
Click Tools
Click Internet Options.
Click the Advanced tab.
Under Reset Internet Explorer settings, click Reset. Then click Reset again.
When Internet Explorer finishes resetting the settings, click Close in the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box.
Start Internet Explorer again.

D.

Please click start, in the search box, type cmd , you will see cmd link in black color at the top. Right click on that(cmd) and click Run as an Administrator. Now, click continue. On the black screen type sfc /scannow and hit Enter.

Get back to me anytime.

Bill,

Did you follow the steps provided?

Customer replied 246 days and 12 hours ago.

Yes I followed all steps provided,

Step A: did not solve any problems, the error message at startup is caused by the windows log on interface itself.

Step B: I actually had Malwarebytes installed already, it picks up nothing. I tried a few different virus scans and spyware scans, they find nothing.

Step C: IE crashes as soon as it launches so I can't access its menus, maybe I could in safe mode but that is the least of my concerns here.

Step D: System file checker did not find any integrity violations, though i'm sure there are

I guess i just have to re install the OS like last time but it is such a pain.

Please check if it works fine here:

If yes, please remove your antivirus program from the comptuter. It may have gone corrupt. you can install it later.
