I can close them but getting to yahoo thru chrome they reappear

Go ahead and click the Wrench in the top right hand corner of Chrome and choose Settings

Scroll down to where it says "On Startup"

BestComputerExpert :

Check the box that says "Open a specific page or set of pages"

Then click the blue link that says Set Pages

BestComputerExpert :

See if those unwanted tabs appear under here, if they do hover over them and click the X

This will remove them
