Hi Michael. Thanks again for helping me to get my e-mail back. However another situation has popped up when I exec the program. I get an error message "parser error 0xc00ce508. Then when I respond to that another error pops up: failed to initialize shared canvas...followed by a bunch of gibberish, and I mean tons of gibberish. Unfortunately I can't copy and paste this. Can you help?
Optional Information: Computer OS: Windows 7 Browser: IE Already Tried: deleting and reinstalling
Hello. My name is XXXXXXX. X will be your Primary Care Technician and I can assist you with your question.
Hello.
Let me see what the error means.
When did it start hapenning?
as soon as I pinned the program to the taskbar. To clarify- the program works after going thru those 2 error messages
From what I can find, it seems to be related to an update.
Are you able to reply to emails?
That figures. I've been getting a message that windows live is ready for an update for over 6 months now but it hasn't worked
let me try
Oh. I guess you were finally able to install the update :-/
Microsoft...
no I can't reply to e-mails. I get the same message about the canvas, etc.
Ok.. that's what I expected.
I just wanted to verify that it's the same problem.
Please go into control panel, and uninstall a program.
And select "show updates"
And see if you have KB2520039
It's actually "view installed updates"
can't find it. Hundreds of updates show but not that one
I was just looking at my list of updates as well... and remember I told you that when I opened WLM yesterday, it was updating? I don't show any updates since 6.30, so that's a little strange.
did you install essentials, or just WLM?
just wlm
Do you know if, at some point, you may have had malware on your system?
Even if it's been removed.
not to my knowledge. I use webroot which constantly checks for that and it hasn't saod anything
OK, that's good.
If you had, I would have you run something to reset registry permissions, but if you run webroot
by the way, I keep getting emails that you have an answer for me. Is that normal?
I think it depends on your preferences. When I open your question in chat and respond, it considers that an answer.
If you mean you are getting a ton of them, that's not normal.
I just counted around 10 of them all saying the same thing
That is not normal.
I will file a bug report. It may be on our end.
Yes. every time you send me a chat, I get an e-mail. No big deal. I will delete them when we are done.
That's my way of constantly testing your email installation. Is that belieable?
believable?
This suggestion might sound stupid, but I would try doing a repair on it one more time.
whatever... as long as you can get rid of the error messages when live mail starts. You are doing great
Do you have any type of software that does anything with the registry? Like PC Mechanic, registry cleaner, etc?
I do. It's PC health advisor
How would you feel about removing it?
If that would fix the problem, I'm game. Are you telling me that 3rd party registry cleaners are no good?
Yes.
What do you suggest to keep the registry cleaned up?
They are generally bad... there is only one that runs on demand that I ever recommend... its ccleaner.
It's free.
And I only run that occasionally, and review what it's going to do before letting it.
hey that sounds good! What do I do next? Repair live mail or get rid of the registry cleaner
or maybe both
I would get rid of the registry cleaner first.
Then, if you have the patience, maybe even uninstall WLM again and then install it with the "standalone" installer, which I can give you a link to.
The standalone installer downloads the entire install and then you install from your hard drive.
Did you have all of essentials installed before, or has it always only been WLM?
I had all of the essentials installed but then uninstalled them and just installed wlm
To uninstall wlm I still need to execute that big DOS program, right?
OK. I am going to give you the link to the Windows Live Essentials full install.
Download this to your hard drive and then install from here.
I would install WLM and Windows Live Writer.
Others if you want.
But Windows live writer, because I think your error message is related to WLM trying to use it to compose messages.
You had nothing at all do to this weekend, right?
Here's the link to the full install
I think I have the live essentials on my hard drive already. That's what I have been using to install it
http://brainchamber.com/yourls/d4OOyv
OK. Make sure it's the same file. Should be 214mb
wlsetup-all
Also, I suggest going to your installed programs and finding the entries for .net framework, right click and repair those as well.
I'm confused. I have wlsetup-all. What's brainchamber.....?
You will have at least microsoft .net framework 4.
Oh, that's one of my sites.
I use it to shorten URLs
because if I try to post an https url or something that ends in .exe you won't get it.
If I shorten it, it doesn't block it.
So, in this case, what I'm giving you is actually a download from microsoft directly
So to review. I just clicked your brainchXXXXX XXnk and nothing happened. Where will I find the live essentials download? Then I have to 1) use the DOS program to delete wlm then 2) use the download that you sent (if I can find it) them 3) repair the .net stuff. Is this correct?
correct... let me give you the microsoft page that you can click the download link from.
http://brainchamber.com/yourls/rgYl2R
Then go down the page and click Enlish.
English, rather
I just found the download link at the bottom of my browser. It says that I have a newer version already. I don't want to replace that do I?
I would say yes.
because there shouldn't be a newer version of this file.
I'm still here. That last link you gave me just goes to a help page. Can't download it from there
How did you get to the message about a newer file existing?
On the help page, if you scroll down, there should be a link to the various languages.
Hi Michael-sorry I had to leave yesterday and am just getting back to this monstrosity. I did all the stuff you seggested and it still gets error messages when I load wlm and also I can't reply or send e-mails. Can you help?
Did you do the installation of Windows live writer?
yes
and repaired the .net stuff
Is there any more to the parser error message?
Does it mention a filename?
It's a duesy...windows\microsoft.net\framework\v.2.0.50727\config\machine.config. I can't copy and paste it and I'm a terrible typist. Hope this makes sense
it does.
That's good
IT's what I was expecting.
Under the folder you just gave me.
the search says that file doesn't exist
Don't search for it... just go to that folder
windows\microsoft.net\framework\v.2.0.50727\config\machine.config
If you can't see it, you may not have the viewing of hidden files enabled.
If that's the case, let me know.
done. (I think) it says something about administrator privileges but something happened
ok
it appended the file with copy default
did you rename the original file
then copy the default and rename it?
I sure do appreciate you. This is way beyond my pay grade
Me too. I'm basically guessing.
:->
kidding of course.
I just renamed it and got an error msg that it may become unusable
That's ok
we want it to
now what?
now rename the one that says default to machine.config
It won't let me do this. It says I need permission from trustedinstaller
can you make a copy and then rename that?
done
Now you may have do the reinstall again, or at least a reapair.
repair.
I would first try it, though.
repairing is underway...
Since this is directly related to .net, you might want to try that repair as well. I think that's what this comes down to is a problem with the .net 2.0 framwework.
The only "net" program that shows is .net 4
it's now being repaired
that's net framework 4
yes... because you have win7.
almost forgot about that.
The whole thing that has me confused is that this is the first time the installer hasn't created a valid shorcut
it now wants me to reboot
Ok.
I will be here.
see you in a while.
I'm back. Do I dare try to reload the program?
I would just try it first.
what do you know...No error messages!!! Mike you're a genius
You're brilliant to recognize that.
Next time, try to have a much more straightforward problem!
So do I leave all those hoky files I renamed?
I would.
just in case.
And you'll never see them.
Thanks so much. Hope your next client is easier on you
As long as we get to a solution, I'm happy. Especially on the tough ones.

Hello.Based on your history :-)I just wanted to follow up on your Windows Live Mail issue to make sure that everything is still working properly and free of crazy error messages. If you still have questions, or if there is anything else I can help you with, just let me know.Mike
Hey I'm very happy with the service you provided and for only $38 (plus a tiny tip). Well worth the 5 or 6 hours we spent chatting. Don't know what I would have done. I had the local guru come out to the house and $78 later he couldn't fix it. I'll be sure to use just answers.com in the future. As an aside, I downloaded ccleaner and it worked but they tried to sell me a bunch of other stuff (including a ccleaner upgrade). I then Googled registry cleaners and found that the most recommended software id regzooka so I went ahead and installed that and things are still zipping right along. Have you heard of that one? Also the most recommended anti-virus is bitdefender. What are your thoughts on that? Sure been great working with you,
Wow Roland... thank you for the kind words. That's fantastic news that things are going well on the computer. I'm really glad to hear that. I understand what you're saying about the pushing the upgrade and that sort of thing. There was a time when that wasn't even an option (years ago) on many open source software products, but with time, that sure has changed. It seems the commercialism is eating up even the best software developers. I should give that as a standard warning with any software like this, but it didn't occur to me. Sometimes it can even be a little tricky to say "no" even though that option is required based on the Open Source Licensing Model.I have never heard of regzooka... it brings to mind both the horror/fun of blowing things up, and that delicious bubble gum that I couldn't get enough of when I was a kid... I was maybe 10 years old and my parents would send me to the corner store to buy cigarrettes, so I'd slip in the gum. Not sure if they really ever knew how much the cigarettes really cost! Things have changed in a lot of ways. I am going to check it out, though. Butdefender - yes, I have heard that over many, many years, often an "Editors Pick" in PCMagazine and publications like that. I've never used it myself, but I do know people that have and do, and they love it. And I can't say that about most of the software in that category. I use Norton 360, and it functions well, but I'm not really happy about how it's changed over recent years, leaving the user with very little control/knowledge of what's going on inside the software. If you do get it, let me know what you think of it please. And it's been a pleasure working with you, too. Have a great weekend!Mike
Computer is still zipping along. I am running regzooka now and then and it seems to help keeping my registry cleaned up. That is a dark area for me so I am somewhat dependent on software and experts like yourself to keep things running. As for firewall, etc. I'm still running webroot. I have a 2 year contract which has a few months left. I may get a hold of you then and see what the latest and greatest is. Thanks again for all your help.
That's really good information. Thank you for the followup. Contact me any time, Roland (or, as I've deemed you - "Regzooka Roland") MikeXXXXX XXXXXnigan41119.9792257292
Hello Regzooka Roland!I'm doing a final followup to make sure I've answered all your questions and that you are happy with the outcome of our working together. If you have questions for me in the future, don't hesitate to create a followup to ask me directly.Thank you again.Mike
hey Mr. Regzooka responder. My computer has never worked better! I really appreciate all the help you've provided. Believe me if anything pops up in the future, YOU will be the first person I contact. Have you looked into reg cleaner-up software? I'd be happy to change if you say. Meanwhile, stand by. You are the Man!
No... I haven't used it... I have some little gremlin-induced things hapenning on my computer that are giving me a real problem because I'm not sure what's causing them... and of course, I can't reproduce them when I want to.Mike
