Hi there, and welcome to JustAnswer, I look forward to assisting you today with your question and providing the best answer possible.I'll start off by indicating this is a serious issue, and can be caused by Windows being corrupted, a virus or a faulty hard drive. The first question I have is if windows runs at all?
yes, XP will run after rebooting
ok, this is good Peter. We are going to fix all the system files and run a consistency scan and repair on the hard disk to remove this as potential problems. In addition we need to make sure you have all the updates for windows installed. This will rule out software as causing this problemI need you to do the following please to achieve thisIn windows, click start, run and type in CMD and press enterInt he black window, type in SFC /ScannowPress enter and let the scan completeThen type in CHKDSK /fPress enter. It may complain that the volume is in use and it will run on restart. Say Yes to this and restart the computer. It will than run the scan and start windows when it has completed. When it has, open your web browser and go to http://update.microsoft.comFollow the instructions to get all the latest updates installed.Once done, restart the computer Then run a complete Virus Scan using your Anti Virus program. If it finds any infections it cannot quarantine or delete, please let me know. This should hopefully stop the issue. The reason I say hopefully is that if the problem persists, than it is highly likely the hard disk has a hardware fault. If you still get the problem, you will need to consider having the hard disk replaced on the computer sorry. If you have any difficulties completing any of the steps, or require any additional information, please do not hesitate to let me know Before Rating My Service. In advance, Thanks for giving a positive rating! Ratings are how I receive credit for helping you today. If you need further assistance for this problem before or after rating feel free to ask a follow up and I'll be glad to help. Thanks,Richard
